A question I was asked yesterday, to which I was not able to give an answer ... Thinking about the British 'Queen Mary' Transporter Trailer (as featured in the Airfix 'RAF Recovery Set', did the Germans have a similar tractor/trailer combination specifically designed to transport small aircraft or components (during WW2)? Although they had a wide variety of half-tracked prime movers and associated trailers, none seems to have been appropriate for this role.

The Lufwaffe used various dedicated trailers, including these Sd.Ah 450 or 451 two axle trailers :

450

451

The 451 is longer (11m) than the 450 (8.30m)...

They also used captured stuff when available like this French Air Force trailer :

You'll find a list of them here :

Thanks for your speedy and informative response.
Considering the load of these fully laden trailers, what type of vehicle would have been used to tow them?

The 450 trailer has a 500 kg payload capacity vs 1 ton for the 451.

I guess the good ol'Opel Blitz would do the job

Here's a period picture from my archive. It shows what appears to be an ex-French Army truck (maybe a Renault AGK...) towing a Messerschmitt Bf-110 :

Here's an ex-British Army Albion truck towing a Sd.Ah 451 loaded with wings :

Another option (I think the truck is a Mercedes-Benz Type LG3000) :

Looks like they also used a one axle trailer (maybe a French one...) :

Just a few more pics...

Sometimes you just need some resourcefulness

Hanomag SS-100 + French Air Force trailer. The aircraft is a French LeO-451 bomber :

British Commer Q2 truck + Tasker trailer :
