Can't wait to read about how it stacks up to Trumpeter or Tiger offerings.

This Zvezda version is different from the Trumpeter and Tiger Model kits released so far.

Didn't know that. Does Zvezda's kit depict a newer version?

James,
This thread from Dec 2017 discussed briefly of the Zvezda kit.
Basically this Zvezda kit looks like a hybrid of the bigger hull with the newer turret from the BMPT-72. A few pictures seem to suggest a vehicle was tested in Syria.

Do we know if they are coming out with a 1/72 version, too? (Just got the Terminator...)

It is slightly smaller and the two automatic grenade launchers are removed, thus reducing the crew to three
So what are the two weapons shown on the hull next to the hull hatches (If they are weapon muzzles)

It looks very much like one of the prototypes of Object 199 which was tested in Syria. The actual service version of the BMPT is different:

I will wager those are grenade launchers on the left and right sponsons, just like the set up on the initial vehicle Ramka object 199. This vehicle (this new Zvezda kit) should have a crew of five. Driver, gunner, commander and two troopers (one each sitting beside the driver). Each trooper would operate one of the sponson grenade launchers.
As I understand things, the BMPT72 is the standard T-72 hull with the turret replaced. Thus the BMPT72 only has 3 crew men and no sponson grenade launchers.

I used the standard description of the Terminator 2, assuming that it was the vehicle produced by Zvezda -which seems was not the case. The text, and error, comes exclusively from me, not from Zvezda.

They might be machinegun ports, similar to the ones on the BMP-3
