Just like MRAP was some new ,"oh my God", life saving technology discovery when the South Africans have used the idea since the early 70s (late 60s?)

That's a bit of a stretch. The 'Trophy/Windbreaker' APS is still fairly new, it only became fully operational in 2009. The first successful ATM intercept in combat conditions was in 2011.

I think they’re using the MRAP in South Africa in the 70s & 80s but being hailed as new in OIF as an example.

MRAP was new (to the US) and did have "life saving" technology. What's the big deal? Same with Trophy. I believe aside from the IDF, the M1 is the only current MBT that will have an Active Protection System. Still, the APS is much overdue. We (the US) truly got lucky that ATGM's were never used against us during our recent adventures. Just need to look at a few you tube videos from Syria to show what the consequences could have been against our vehicles that were pretty much defenseless against this threat.
