Does the JGSDF LAV carry any other weapon besides the M249 SAW? All the photos I found online only show the SAW or nothing at all. Was just curious as to what other weapons they can carry. I want to do something different. This is the kit I have shown below.

Yes, they also mount the Type 01 LMAT...anti-tank missile.

I don't believe there is a kit or conversion for the LMAT missile or mount.

Hi Jason, thanks for the reply. I have seen a couple with those AT missiles but I was looking mostly for maybe either a .50cal or a 7.62mm similar to the FN MAG.

Fictitious but plausable ..... CROWS with .50 or Mk.19. JGSDF uses both weapons and tend to lean towards US based/influenced systems.

The gunner uses the launcher from the roof hatch, there's no specialized mount for it.

I've seen M2 and RWS on the LAV but those conversions appear to be one-offs and never widely adopted or perhaps only used during emergencies. IIRC, these were unveiled more than 5 years ago.

Thanks for all the replies, greatly appreciated! I will more than likely go with the regular M2 .50cal. The RWS looks close to the ones on the M-ATV except the optics are on the side of the weapon instead of the weapon mounted above them.

Thanks again H.P.

In the photo you linked with the .50cal mounted, the wire cutters are not present. Also, it looks like the antenna mounts are gone too. I dry fitted a .50cal on my kit and it will interfere with the wire cutters, antenna mount between the right side doors and even the side roof rails. In your photo, it seems as if the .50cal mount might be angled where it can pass over the side roof rails. My mount sticks straight out so I will have to scratch build a new mount. Shouldn't be too difficult with a couple pieces of plastic strips, I hope.

I was planning to mount the wire cutters and already glued the mounts in place. I could always leave the actual wire cutters off though but I like the way they look. With the wire cutters mounted, the .50cal won't be able to traverse more than 15-20 degrees each way. Kind of the same way the early HMMWV's were when they first mounted the smoke dischargers with the gun shield. To fix that, they made an extension to push the dischargers further out so the gun shield can traverse around them.

I might go back to the original M249 SAW or if I keep the .50cal then it will be a what if.

Another option :

Looks like the left wire cutter base is visible on this one (and the MG setup appears to be different as well, the MG being fitted to the rear of the gun ring)...
