In my Tankograd book on BATUS, there are several photographs of OPFOR vehicles, including the CVR(T) Salamander and the CVR(T) Sturgeon. It would appear that both are in a single green paint scheme, but I can't work out whether this is the standard NATO Green or something different. Of course, the heavy covering of dust and mud tends to alter the appearance significantly, but the base colour on these vehicles appears to be more of a grey-green. Even the relatively clean OPFOR Land Rover Defenders (in a different photograph) seem to be a distinctive grey-green.

Regarding my own question, I note that the green applied to current Land Rovers (Wolf) is somewhat darker than that used on earlier vehicles. Could this be the case with the BATUS OPFOR vehicles?

You are correct thinking the colour is not NATO green in the Tankograd book images. It is much more of a khaki-OD mix even when clean.
It is interesting to see the changes in the OPFOR CVR-Ts at BATUS over the years from the modifications to the colour schemes.
Three colour scheme...
Newer NATO green scheme with multiple MBT modifications.
We really need a CVR-T Salamander conversion in 1/35.

Jim,
Many thanks for the very interesting photos.
Something I have noticed on certain BATUS vehicles ... an item that resembles a witch's hat (or a small traffic cone). Presumably this is some type of antenna, but what exactly? Also, is its use limited to specific types of vehicle?
