Hello everyone...I am working on a Tiger 1 late...I am using a cavalier zimmerit sheet (which looks and fits fantastic by the way), my questions are:

1. Do I cut out the damaged zimmerit area on the resin sheet showing the plastic of the model, or is the damaged area on the resin zim the correct depth?

2. The damaged area of the zimmerit, I believe it should show the red primer as the zimmerit was applied at the factory before being painted, is this correct?

Thank you in advance for your answers,

Eric

The answer is yes and yes. The zimmerit would break away exposing the primed surface underneath. But that also means the the primed surface was now also exposed to damage so you could also have chipping, scratches exposing bare metal. Damage to the zimmerit due to enemy gun fire would expose bare metal.

What gun made that penetration in the pic? The hole looks to be 4 - 5 inches in diameter, and holes are not much bigger than the projectile.

the hole itself looks about 3 inches across but the crater is about a finger tip wider then the edge of the hole so two fingertips call it an inch wider than the hole. Consistent with a 75mm/2.95in or 76mm/2.99in or 76.2mm/3in.

Tiger 221 from s.Pz.Abt 504 in Cecina, dispatched by 752nd Tank Bat. http://www.thefewgoodmen.com/thefgmforum/threads/sherman-75mm-v-tiger-action.3696/

It's in my pile to model that Tiger/Sherman as well to accompany the Cologne Panther/Pershing.

In the picture you can clearly see that around the hole is the red primer (darker area).....what is the lighter color under the zimmerit...but not directly around the hole?

Perhaps remnants of the adhesive in the paste, like when you separate two pieces of furniture wood that were glued together and you get that thin layer of old glue and varnish stuck to the pieces where they joined?

That's all I've got.

If you read the thread I posted somebody explains how zimmerit is applied. Two layer process apparently.
