MiniArt are to release a third Hummingbird, this one as seen in US colours (colors) after the war. Nice move, MiniArt.

As seen here, https://toylandhobbymodelingmagazinepublishing.wordpress.com/2018/07/27/new-kit-in-progress-1-35-fl-282-v-23-hummingbird-kolibri-41004/

There was no USAF prior to Sept. 1947. These "USAF" markings must be from another space/time continuum.

Found an interesting site on the Kolibri. http://www.aviastar.org/helicopters_eng/flettner_kolibri.php According to it V-21 had 3 bladed rotors.

USAAF maybe? But the ol’ red, white, and blue does look very striking!

The markings with the simple white star are actually USAAF in 1945.

The metal with the star and bar is 1947. It says March so it's still technically USAAF, but it was a time of transition. Everyone knew it was coming.

Not the first time a company hasn't quite gotten the USAF -USAAF transition right.

I know someone somewhere conflated this little hummingbird with the Roswell crash of July 1947 too.

Actually for aircraft the blue and white stars and bar came out in summer of 43. the red line was added in 47 when it became USAF.

All sorts of ways to start a bar fight! My brother was a Cav Scout. His fav. was "Tanker, huh? Guess they had do something with the guys who couldn't pass the ASVAB test." I know ....

Back to topic ..... Sounds like the V-21 was close to a production version. As a "What if" ... air support for the Panzer 46 crowd ... what operational color scheme would have been used? What sort of radio fix for artillery spotting? Crew .... Luftwaffe pilot, Wehrmacht spotter? Weapons? Probably just crew's personal weapons in case they were forced down in less than friendly territory.

Arming this may be a little more problematic given its low lift weight for a “what if...”. Maybe a forward firing machine gun? Or, the late war rocket pod fitted underneath? I had looked at a 20mm cannon with drum magazine in a centreline fitting.

And then there is the camo...

Well think about the kind of armament a US light observation chopper carries. Often nothing. But I could see an MG 131 pod underneath or maybe a nose mounted rifle caliber machine gun or two.

Considering that the luftwaffe supplied their own personnel for air cooperation, I could see the army supplying artillery observers.

A realistic weapons fit , I'd think might be an MG 34 / 42 for the observer for placebo self defense. (though supposedly they did test with a FW-190 and the Fl282 was able to stay out of the gunsight in most cases.) Pistols and MP-40s for the crew weapons. Unless you are "what iffing " a jet engine into it to make it a ground attack platform ...... don't forget to replace the canvas with Kevlar to protect from ground fire.... Be a good companion piece to the AL-4 Praying Mantis (Grasshopper with 'tude!)
