A little tasteless, don't you think? Even for Russia? (Of course, EVERYONE needs a sniper rifle for that offending neighbor!

I think it is meant as a post-apocalyptic figure, but definitely the name is a little sensitive.

Agree. But they could have called it by a million other different names!

Fallout: New Vegas has been around since 2010. I don't find anything wrong with the figure - it was meant for that series and has nothing to do with the jackass in Las Vegas, who was anything but a sniper.

While we in N. America may find this disturbing the company is based in Latvia so might not know how offensive people here may find it. And if they had named it to something like "sniper from the game fallout new Vegas" it wouldn't receive any notice at all. Let's not make this a thread like the Meng BUK or the ISIS flag.
If you find it offensive do the mature thing and write the company, explain the problem then suggest a new name.

There's not really anything wrong with the name IMO, It's just a case of "why" not being obvious to someone who doesnt know the subject.
It's a figure of an unnamed character from a game called "Fallout: New Vegas", said character only appears in the intro cutscene as far as I remember (The sniper anyway, people with the same armor appear in game a few times*), but the look is pretty iconic due to being on the game's boxart... It was also my favourite looking set of armor in the game when I finally got it, so I'm a little biased with that part.
Though, I assume the generic name was meant to get around copyright or something, but calling it a "New Vegas Sniper" probably isnt going to help much, there.

Sorry, but I think the OP is creating controversy where there isn't any. This is obviously from the video game.

New Vegas is the setting of the Fallout: New Vegas video game that was released several years ago. The figure is of one of the soldiers from the game. It has nothing to do with any recent "real world" events.

Much MUCH ado about nothing.
Perhaps some work in reading comprehension would benefit some people, and prevent them from getting triggered by a big nothing.

Well, c'mon, grandpa, time to get with the New World Order and start playing because that's all you're going to be doing when the matrix goes online and your mind gets shunted to the cloud.

If you live in Las Vegas and work in law enforcement as I do, you would understand the angst this title brings.

So ......... If someone shot up a night club called Trek we would have to get rid of all Star Trek things and come up with a new name for something that has been around for 60 years? A new figure for a decade old series has to have a new name because something bad happened some where with a common name? Just like dozens of cultures cant use a symbol used for centuries was abused by ONE AH (befitting, the abbreviation works both ways.) for a dozen years.

But such modelling subjects as "Enola Gay" or dioramas showing conflicts in Syria and Ukraine are acceptable, right? Sure, they are far away from home, so who cares...

This is a manufactured outrage. Sorry, Biggles, but there is nothing controversial or insensitive about creating a figure based on a popular game, and naming it after. (And it's not the School Shooter, which is incidentally available on Steam. Or was.) The only ones objecting to this could be the publishers of the game.
Familiar?
As others pointed it out, it's Fallout New Vegas, and has been available since, well, forever. It's even in the title.
In a website which features depictions of actual, current conflicts, actual vehicles, actual soldiers (and actual dead bodies), please do not take offense on a fictional character. I wonder how many Iraqi, Afghan, Syrian, Ukrainian, Latvian, Georgian, etc, etc could then start protesting against the stuff we build -with a much better reason, I might add. At least these sites should be free of the outrage culture so popular everywhere.

The figure is an NCR Ranger from the Fallout game universe and has been around since 2010!

As for the figure itself I've been looking for a Ranger figure for a long time and this looks pretty good.

I really don't have an issue with this figure. As others have posted, this is a figure from the Fallout: New Vegas game and is clearly titled as such in the link.
Visually, it would be very difficult to mistake this figure as a depiction of Stephen Paddock.
If this thread had not been titled "Vegas Sniper??" I probably would not have linked the figure to that mass shooting.
