Planning a future project with a PzKW 38(t) Ausf B. What I've found so far is there were only a handful of Behfels tanks. I found a possible operator, 7th Panzer in France with grey / brown camo. Anybody have any info on the whos , wheres and whens of these? I thinking a dio in France or early Russia, with some infantry. (Was planning Poland, 39 but found out only As were around. Village ... infantry .... KOed Polish tankette ....)

Weren't vehicles repainted to plain grey for the invasion of France and the low countries?

The directive to paint all vehicles in solid RAL 7021 Dunkelgrau became effective some 5 weeks after the French surrender.

I have only found two photos of actual Befhels 28(t)s. One is of the back end. Other is more like one of those identification silhouette training cards. Not much help. Some color plates show the hull MG, some no. MG in turret ... can't tell. the 37mm screens it out. I know the Befehlspanther had the co-ax pulled and extra radio stuff in it's place. Would they have done the same with the 38(t)? Looks like you'd have to climb out to change your mind to begin with, (if crews were co-ed you may have started a battle with a crew of 4 and ended up with 5 or 6!), but looks like turret MIGHT be a bit roomier. Would make sense yank the turret MG and keep the hull on. What thinks you?

Why is there more info on the paper panzers than there is on one that actually existed ... even if in smallish numbers (I heard something around 60)

Well to answer your question about why there is more info on "paper panzers" than those that was built is simple.Most of what people have come up with is just looking at blueprints and records.Also sometime times it just seems to me people also guess too(for example the P-1000 Ratte).
