My Army unit used M151's to pull the 4.2" mortar trailer I'm going to try to describe...unknown if this trailer was exclusive to my unit or not, but I never saw another one after I left Ft. Bragg...and I'm not sure of the nomenclature, if it even had one...

It was basically a flat bed trailer (the bed was wood planks, the rest metal) and had a couple brackets fashioned on it to clamp the 4.2" mortar tube so it would actually ride up off of the bed of the trailer. It also had locations for the baseplate/rotator, standard, & bridge. We used these trailers to transport our ground mounted 4.2" mortars from one location to another.

I'd like to build an M151 with the aforementioned trailer in tow, even if I have to scratch build the trailer...but, I need reference photo's...any help would be appreciated.

I think that this is what you're looking for DJ... Modified M416A1 Trailer.

I apologize for the photos being so big... I must've slipped somewhere along the process here. They reside in my gallery if you loose track of this thread....

All of the other photos that are in this FM 10-545 have the mortar, trailer and M151burried in packing, rigging and parachutes and are not all that clear. Let me know if you need anything further on this little cutie...

FM 10-545... "Airdrop of Supplies and Equipment, Rigging, 4.2-Inch Mortar"

Kevin,

That's it!!!! You're the best. No lie, that is the first and only picture I've seen of that trailer since 1984...Do you know if this can be found in kit form anywhere, or is this going to be scratch built?

The M416 trailer comes with the old Tamiya M151A1 Mutt with trailer (#35140) as well as the Academy copy kit #1326. The Academy copy includes the 4.2" mortar set.

Academy recently issued the M151A2 hardtop with trailer as well (#13012).

Sabot,

Thanks! That confirmed my thoughts about having to modify an existing trailer. I was hoping I could use that very trailer. I may have one, but at least I know it's out there if I don't. Thanks for directing me to the Academy kit...I may opt for that one since it has the mortar with it, and I'm fresh out.
Again, you all amaze me with all the information you're so willing to pass on. I can't tell you all how much fun I've had the last month being on Armorama.
