Im trying to update my 1/35 Tamiya M106A1 to a M1064A3 and was wondering if any companies make an update conversion kit for it. If not then thats cool, I'll just be looking for a lot of pics of this baby.

I have an M1064 in my motor pool (based on an M113A2 chassis), not the M113A3 based M1064A3.

Rob, those are practically all of the pictures I have been doing my research off of lol. In fact I have a certain question for you too. As far as the ammo stores in both the left and right rear compartment goes, exactly how do those work? I couldnt tell from the pics if rounds are attached to something or are those stores kind of like a big dresser with a bunch of shelves that the rounds are stored in?

MR Modelbau makes a conversion for the M106 to the M1064. I am converting the M121 Carrier/Ground Mount Mortar into the M120 straight Ground Mount, and well, I must say that I am not all that impressed with MR's mortar, baseplate and bipod. The cost vs the quality of just the GM mortar itself has me quite miffed to say the least. The tube is turned aluminum, and the baseplate will be ok fully covered up with sandbags or recessed so far into the 'ground' so you won't see it anyway. Bipod is cast aluminum and is a little rough but for the most part, I am converting that into the M190 from the M191 bipod that comes in the kit. The bipod looks nothing like what is shown in FM 23-90 however, it does look like what is actually found in TM 9-1015-250-10. Notes to the mortar's manufacturer have come back with notes stating that any drawings, photos, TM etc. or specs are currently under restricted distruibution. (Gee, I have TM 9-1015-250-10 already in my hands. Whaz up with that? Am I a naughty scale modeler? I mean, all the info you want is all over the net, I just wanted a clear photo of one area for cripe's sake.)

I do not know what his carrier's conversion is like, but It does look good in pieces.

MR is on the net as mrmodelbau.com or something like that. I deleted that bookmark a long time ago. His stuff is usually available thru Greatmodels.com and/or similar stateside online shops.

Sorry for blabbing on here...

Yeah I see that VLS Corporation carries his stuff and they list this conversion kit at $52! If your saying that the mortar itself isnt all that great then I dont quite know if I want to pay that much for an entire update kit. Then again it is the only update set and it would be pretty hard to do it myself.

Yep, unfortunately it is the only M120/M121/M1064 game in town. (Hello Tamiya, Italeri, Academy, Accurate Armour!?!?) If you do go for the conversion, I would be very interested in hearing about it and seeing it's completion! I have had this on my 'radar' since I heard way back when that it was indeed being released. It's been out close to a year (?) now and I have not seen or heard of one being built yet despite the 'demand'. Have heard nothing other than it is in fact released.

Please keep me posted Zach!

I have received notes from a woman who's husband is on the M1064 (FL NG) somewhere over in the big sand box. She has mentioned that he is taking lots of pictures (but can't get them developed over there?) and will see if he'll send some up to me upon his return home. I sure hope so! Armorama will be the second place that they get posted!

Cheers Zach!
