Hi friends,
I'm looking for some informations about the steel cable mount on the 40-tons winch from Bergepanther Ausf.A. I would like to upgrade the Takom's kit and need its diameter. I was looking in my sources and on internet pages but unfortunately I found nothing. Maybe I can't look?
Regards
Stefan

Have you check out the Bergepanther walkaround photos on the Net Maquettes website? They have quite a few detailed photos of the winch system.

G'day Stefan

I presume you mean the diameter of the cable drum. Some info that I found in a lot of information I have collected over the years is as follows:
Winch rope diameter 33.4mm, circumference 104.78mm
Winch rope maximum length 152 metres
Winch capstan drum diameter 584mm
Winch main drum root diameter and width 406x356mm
Winch cable rear guide pulley diameter and width 165 dia x 197mm

Hope this helps.

Regards

Rob

Hello Rob,
Thanks a lot for your help, you've helped me a lot. And by the way, I thought that the steel cable on the Bergepanther winch is smaller in diameter.
Best

G'day Stefan

The dimensions I quoted are conversions from the Imperial measurements reported by a British team which examined a Bergepanther in 1945. I believe that Panther tow cables were 32mm diameter, according to at least one reference I have read, but all of the Panthers I have seen in museums have cables of smaller diameter (not that they are necessarily correct).

Rob
