Hi, Danny!
Great additions for whoever wants to do a super-detailed kit (not the scope of this review).
DEF set seems to be exactly what one needs - I was correct earlier in saying that the wheels are coming with chocks and the smoke disperser. In this case you're going to have two options for the muzzle: one in resin, one in brass. The resin wheels look fantastic, definitely better than the ones in the kit.
Very nice indeed!
Thank you for keeping us posted!
Gabriel

Hi, guys!
UPDATE
After three failed attempts to scratch-build the perforated smoke disperser I gave in and pushed on. I installed the 105mm cannon and then sprayed everything with Micro Satin.
It's for the first time I'm using the product. In my experience, goes much better than Vallejo matte clear, but not as good as my regular solvent based polyurethane. Much easier to use and clean up though. I have used my Ginza GP-C airbrush with .3mm setup @ 20psi.
A very light weathering with chalks follows after the final detailing.
Cheers!

Excellent work Gabriel. I'm amazed at how well your paint selection layed down. However, I can not see any images, in your last post.

Matthew & Robin: thank you for head-up regarding the pictures. Google Photos auto-updated yesterday - I'm not sure what could have caused the issue. Anyhow, I re-upload them and checked the privacy. On my laptop they look just fine. Please confirm if they are visible now. Thank you!

Thanks, Robin!
I don't really understand what the cause is. On my laptop all looks fine. In my phone - I've just seen it - two pictures show restricted access (?!). Le'ts hope it's just a Google "temporary lack of reason"!
Anyhow, more pictures are coming!
Here I'm working out the last small details:
The MG painted with Krylon gloss black and dry-brushed with silver enamel:
The towing cable based with gloss black, then painted over with home brewed "gunmetal"
Finally, the cable attached to the hull. Now I need to touch the clamps with the corresponding colors:
I have the declared ambition to finish this build by the end of the week Let's hope no inopportune phone call reminds me of other unfinished businesses
Cheers!

Hi, guys!
UPDATE
The blinkers and reflectors painted with Tamiyax-26 clear orange over silver enamel:
Selection of supplies used for detailing:
The MG assembled and dry fitted:
Some dried mud effect on the tires:
... and a first set with the almost complete mock-up of the model:
I still need to add some dust on the undersides, to apply a wash to the MG and to scratch-build the antennas - and I guess that'll be!
Cheers!

Hi, guys!
I have finished my build! But first things first:
Antennae wired scratch-built from stretched sprue. I want them bent, it's not a "mistake"
Dust effects under the entire vehicle and partly over the sides. Some smoke effects also in the exhaust area:
Last time the vehicle is to be seen "heels over head". Sorry, the picture is slightly out of focus:
Follows the completed model, from the eight angles:
... and a couple details:
Conclusions to the build:
The assembly goes like a dream and the instructions manual is flawless.
Some detail is simplified, most notably to the MG and the smoke disperser on the barrel. Whoever wants more accurate detail, please check the links posted by Dany in the blog.
I have enjoyed every single moment of this build and if somebody doesn't take the pain I took to paint the distribution / suspension modules in detail, I dare to recommend this kit as a week-end build with great results.
A 360 degree presentation will be posted soon!
Cheers!

Gabriel, that's a fantastic result. Followed your build silently as I have a soft spot for wheeled AFV. This Type 16 remembers me a lot of the italian Centauro which is somewhere in my stash. Seeing your wonderful build I might step away from my "German Bundeswehr/NATO only" credo for a moment ....
Thanks for sharing this build with us!

Thorsten, Thank you!
Hard to believe (even for me) in my 70+ stash there are 4 (four) only tracked vehicles of which one I bought on my YT subscribers' request. Everything else has wheels or wings
Centauro is a superb looking vehicle as well, and more than once and more than from pure coincidence Type16 and Centauro are mentioned together
I appreciate your feed back!
Thanks!

Roy, thank you for your kind comment. I guess you refer to Trumpeter's 1/35 Rooicat. I haven't build it myself, but I've heard and seen only good about it. With the right time and circumstances I will gladly build one some day
Cheers!

The paint and weathering are on point, only enhancing an exemplary build. Long have I wanted to finish a wheeled afv. The Centauro has been the route I want to go, but the Type 16 looks to be right up my alley. I will be using your method to painting lights and lamps, on my next build.

Thanks, Matthew! Centauro has some awesome looks as well but Tamiya's Type 16 it's really a joy! I love them all - that was my third "wheeled tank" this year already!
The method of painting clear colors over silver it's been around since long, especially used by aircraft modelers for instrument panels. Lately it's being rarely used because the advent of pre-painted PE parts but it's good to try it and add to your "arsenal".
Thank you!

Yes, the kit is from the new Tamiya ones, impeccable with regard to fitment. If you want more detail, you might want to build a drilled muzzle brake and wheels, but even OOB it looks very nice.
Cheers!

Thanks, John! Yes, I noted in the conclusions of the build that the MG it is overly simplified, but I can't remember if I've seen any AM - at least the barrel.

Ugh, you're right. I didn't pay attention, since it was never glued and later dismantled for the model to be shipped. But you have a point - I should have paid more attention to detail. Thanks for head-up
