That's very interesting. I guess this will be much more detailed than the Revell kit... looking forward to seeing more of it soon.

Edit: After having had a closer look to the parts layout it's more than obvious, that we're getting more than in the Revell kit here. I'm wondering what the price tag will say...

At last, why Tamiya didn't scale up their 48th scale one is beyond me

Can't wait

I think that means a second version of the VW is in the works.

I think it means you have both options in the same kit. I think I see Africa Corp markings on the decal sheet.

First we have to find photo as a proof of type 82E in North Africa.

I think the version in NA is the Typ 92, different than the kit.

That is indeed the case. Other than the taller ride height, you can't really tell the two apart easily just by looking. There were some mechanical that are obvious when you get under the vehicles.

82, 92, does not meter when there is no photo of any Bug in North Africa. I am searching for photo proof for years and never found one. Hopefully someone will prove me wrong here?

Isn’t the interior different on a 92 along with a cloth top?

A 1/35 VW Campervan would be a lovely addition if they release this as a 1960's Bug at some point in the future.

Revell did release a Camper Vanagon a while back, but to my knowledge no one has done any air-cooled campers. Hasegawa do a 23-window, a panel and a singlecab; wish they would expand that line.

I personally have a hard time finding my particular year transporter. You can find plenty of diecast 60's vehicles, and quite a few of the '72-'79 buses, but I had a 1969 7-seater deluxe and no one makes anything close. I would so love to have one I could build as my old bus.

With that said, why has Tamiya never scaled up their 1941 Ford Command Car/Limo?

If Tamiya would scale up their VW it wouldn’t hold a candle to this kit.

Kubelwagens, certainly, but I have not seen any Beetles other than scarabs in North Africa.

So here's a few designations, in case anyone's curious:

Type 82: Kubelwagen

Type 821: Kubelwagen radio car

Type 822: Kubelwagen ambulance

Type 82e: KDF (Beetle) body on Kubelwagen chassis

Type 86: prototype of Type 87

Type 87: Beetle body on 4WD Kubelwagen chassis

Type 92SS: SS-issued version of the Type 82e; some special interior mods

But no Beetles in Africa.

I seem to recall that Revell Germany offered a really cool 1/24th split-window Samba bus model some time back that I eyed for awhile. And no, they were never in North Africa during WW2 either.

so, should the 82E have the same tires as the kubelwagen?
Thanks, Dan

I spent a lot of time inside a 1960 Bug, with the cloth roll back sun roof. Big oval back window, the last splits were in 1953.

My Dad made it into a dune runner in the '70's using a mail order do it yourself tube kit. It now belongs to my 8 year old Great Niece. My Dad gave it too her when she asked for it, aged 5! It needs a lot of work.

Mom and Dad had a 1966 bus, we went everywhere in it, all over Arizona in the late 1960's. A turtle could pass us going up hill! It was powder blue. There were eight of us in there, and all our junk. It's a miracle we got anywhere. Dad sold it around 1972.
