I'm getting a "untrusted connection" warning on https://archive.kitmaker.net/. Seeing it on Firefox, IE and Palemoon, all of them updated. Anyone else seeing this?

I occasionally get that message with this and other sites, but normally it's after I've done an update on my computer or IPad. I've been visiting these same sites for a number of years now, and don't worry if I get the "secure site" warning for sites I routinely visit. I stopped worrying when i get this same message even On DoD websites! It's likely because your server has updated a security protocol.

I have been seeing these messages instead of the ads that were supposed to be in that area of the screen.
The occurences I have seen most likely depend on something in the ad-server or a site linked to be the ad-server.
Kitmaker/Armorama sells an area on the screen to some ad-broker, the ad-broker sells it to someone who wants to place an ad.
The web-page is linked via the ad-broker to the advertiser.
The choice of which ad to show depends on my recent web-history.
While editing this I see an ad from "myToolStore" showing a smallish band-saw which I have googled a few times. At other times I see other ads or the message about trusted connections. My guess is that it is caused by the server providing the content for the ad.
I would be surprised if it has anything to do with Armorama or Kitmaker.

Robin, Ok, so the ads are the problem, and it's tied to your browser history?!? In that case, I must have a severe rodent problem, since I keep getting a giant rat advertising for "Witworth Pest Solutions" at the top of this and other postings!! I also get an occasional ad for women's clothing on the right side of various postings. I assure you I don't have any rodents (that I know of) and I don't wear dresses (at least never in public, but when I cook I'll occasionally wear an apron!-- again, not in public!-- I simply don't have the figure for it!!) Maybe my wife has been "surfing the net" here on Armorama-- I smell a rat!! 😆🐀

The ads that the Almighty Algorithms at Google decides are fit for your eyes depend on your search and surf history.
If you really want to get rid of the female clothing you should google tools for stamp collectors or something like that.
Cooking utensils? Jewelers tools is a good one by the way. Do it frequently and the dresses will go away as if by magic. Clicking on ads for things that you would rather see than dresses also throws the algorithms off your scent.
If you use Gmail you can also trigger the algoritms by actively dismissing/deleting ads from the top of the Social-tab.
Sometimes there is also an option to delete/close ads on websites. When you close an ad there will often be a pop-up window politely asking why you closed it. Some of the options are interesting. I think one of them would be labelled Offensive, very useful that one
Searching/Googling for odd things will make your ad-profile fuzzy and difficult for the algorithms to interpret.

I got the problem to clear up a few hours after I started this thread by backdating my browsers. Some days it doesn't pay to update.

You guys missed my joke completely...oh well... the thing is I don't "click' on any ads at all. and I don't use my computer, Iphone or Ipad to buy anything on line. I do a lot of historical research though. But strange stuff appears anyway.

No, I saw you were joking.

I just don't see any ads. There's nothing for me to click on.

Well that's the problem right there.
You don't click on anything and the algorithms get desperate. They will start to pick random ads to check if there is anything at all that might somehow help them figure out what your interests are

PS: Ratpoison is the WRONG way to get rid of rats. They eat it, feel ill, then they go and hide somewhere safe to stay out of harms way while they are ill, then they die and after a while they get smelly. That is the time when you start smelling a rat.
Using traps is the only way.
Seen this by the way?

Now that's some video. Actually, I have had a rat problem I the past. Outside my house of course. And I used a pellet gun to get rid of them-- not quite as fancy but I did use a scope. That night scope is pretty interesting though. I stopped though when home expansion in my neighborhood put two homes within "pellet range". Then I bought an electronic rat killer-- it actually electrocutes them. But I haven't had a rat problem in years (I stopped feeding the birds and squirrels too). So I guess I'll have to start "clicking" on some interesting ads. Now if only there was an add for that rifle and scope!???! I'll confine it to Models though!

When I was 8 I had a crossman CO2 .177 caliber pellet rifle. We'd be the rat eradication team for neighbors and their farms. Not to mention our place with hundreds of chickens, duck and geese. No fancy low light scopes cameras just a small scope and a flashlight. This was the 70's. Hundreds of rats and mice on a good week. I could take out a racoon with a headshot to keep them out of our poultry. We didn't like to poison because the wild animals and our dogs and cats would get the dead ones before we could get to them and burn them.

Google Ads thinks that I want to see ads for this hoodie:

"Raw Meat Kangaroo Pocket Hoodie - Red - 2xl"

If I had an irritating vegan neighbour I could possibly consider it ...

Seriously dude, I'll get classic car related searches, hobby related searches and maybe some shoes but a raw meat hoodie?

Clear you browser history more often man.

And sign out of Google before surfing the net.

I occasionally get this one also. I checked out a T-shirt company that had some funny, politically incorrect slogans, a while ago. I'm guessing it's related.
I too used to go to the dump and shoot rats as a teenager with a .22.
GREAT FUN !
Have a great weekend everybody !
