Dragon's Stug III Ausf.E shows one the scheme for Stug Abt. 190 in Crimea, 1942. It list the color dunkelgelb. Not to specific. I'm thinking RAL 8000 or 8020. Any opinions?

As far as I know, some equipment intended for Afrika (and already painted with Tropical colours) ended in Crimea...
And Dunkelgelb was introduced in 1943. Sorry I can not be of more help.

My thoughts too. That's why I figure 8000 or 8020. *Switched in M March 42* One question that popped in my mind, Panzer IIIs and such were slated for North Africa and got rerouted. Only 4 Stugs made it to Africa. Soooo ..... would the reason there were only 4 there mean the ones slated for there were sent to Russia? Or did Stug Abt.190 get ahold of RAL 8000 via "Midnight Requisition"?

Actually the order for the "Afrika" colors was not strictly for Africa, but for tropical or warmer climates which also included southern Russia. So these were intentionally painted in tropical colors and send to Russia. Whether it is 8000 or 8020 I am not sure as I do not have my references on hand, but my guess is 8000 based on the time frame as 8020 was of a later painting instruction than 8000.

Roughly speaking the time frames for tropen colors are as follows.
RAL 8000/7008 May 1941-April 1942.
RAL 8020/7027 April 1942-May 1943.
Dark Yellow came into being as a base color in April 1943, eliminating the overall need for tropen colors.

Just had a thought cross my mind. I know the 4 Stugs sent to North Africa had "tropical"air filters and improved cooling. Would others , heading to southern Russia, have been also equipped? If they were, from what I can tell the trop ones had the air filter canisters on the fenders and raised engine access covers. Anything else?
