Dear Friends,
I was wondering if anyone could help me research the fact if Egypt has the 2K6 frog 7 system or not. In wikipedia it is confirmed, but i have seen no other references about it.
I am not talking about the wheeled 9k52 but about the tracked 2K6. Only wikipedia mentions it so i am starting to have some doubts.
Cheers
Hussein

Hi Hussein,
There is also a special Russo-Soviet forum in Armorama so maybe you could try asking your question there as well?

The source cited by wikipedia is the database of the Stockholm International Peace Research institute (http://armstrade.sipri.org/) and according to them, 12 Luna/FROG Mobile SSM launcher were ordered in 1965 and delivered in 1967, and 12 Luna-M/FROG-7 Mobile SSM launcher were ordered in 1968 and delivered between 1971-1972.

Yes but which type of carrying vehicle?

Hussein,
Coincidentally, I digged today through SIPRI arms trade database, doing research about my country's Army procurements during Cold War.
Now, while Wikipedia doesn't mention Bulgaria as receiver of this weapon type,Bulgaria bought 2 varieties of Frog:Luna/Frog and Luna-M/Frog-7.I've seen a Frog on tracked vehicle in a military museum in Lovetch recently:
It seems to me, that SIPRI uses the designation Frog for the early-carried on tracked vehicle missile system, while for the later-based on ZIL-135 truck, SIPRI uses Frog-7.
I've checked the record for Artillery deliveries in Egypt and there is a record of 12 launchers Luna/Frog, ordered in 1965 and delivered to Egypt in 1967.These should have been carried on 2P16 tracked vehicle-like the one in Lovetch pictured above.
12 Luna M/Frog-7(the ZIL-135 based modernisation) were ordered from Egypt in 1968 and were delivered between 1971 and 1972.
Hope this helps!

Hello Angel
This is indeed very valuable information thank you so much.
In the photo it is mentioned on the sign the vehicle name 2K6 which is exactly what i wanted to make sure of.
Im trying to do the 2K6 in Egyptian but of course IMPOSSIBLE to find any references for markings.
Once again thank you for the valuable information.

Glad to be of help, Hussein!
Regarding markings, maybe you can find something in the book featured in this thread:

On the other hand-Trumpeter are about to launch their "2P16 Launcher with Missile of 2K6 Luna"(kit #09545) in January next year.Currently there is no info on decal and marking options. While they're usually stingy on decal variants, maybe they'll offer an Egyptian version, who knows?

I have some bad news, there are no photos or profiles of Egyptian 2K6s in that book at all.
