This question may have been asked already, but my search came up with nothing. I want to build an American, British, German, and Japanese tank from WWII. I want to know what tank would best represent each country. What was produced in largest numbers in each country? What tank saw the most combat for each country? I know that for the Americans, it would have to be the Sherman. But what about the others? If you could also tell me who makes the best kit in each department, that would be appreciated. Im looking for 1/35. Thanks in advance!

1. USA.................................M4/M4A1 Sherman
2. UK...................................Matilda
3. Germany........................Pz111/Pz1V
4. Japan.............................Type 97 Chi Ha
5. Russia...........................T34
These are the tanks I associate with the major combatants of WW2. All are available from Tamiya in several versions. Be careful, once you start doing a project like this, you could be bitten by the "series" bug and start building varients of each tank! #:-)

For the German one it would be a PzIV or a Tiger. of course a Sherman for the USA, and for Russia the T-34. I don't know about the rest.

I dunno enogh about British Japanese French or Italian tanks to make an informed choice, but if you are looking for the 'icon' tank,
For the US it would be a Sherman,
The Germans icon would be Panther or Tiger
Russia T-34

the other nations have been well covered, but in terms of british armour,
the valentine was the most produced tank we had, but we used more shermans than anything else!
cheers

I'd have to go with:
Germany = PzIV
Japan = Type 97 ChiHa
Russia = T34/76
USA = Sherman ( any type)
UK = Churchill
Germany = PzIV
Japan = Type 97 ChiHa
Russia = T34/76
USA = Sherman ( any type)
UK = Churchill

Can't say more about "symbolic" tanks than what's been said, but I do know that the best kits of the:
Tiger II - DML or Tamiya
Tiger I - Academy
Panther - DML
T-34/85 - DML
CHI-HA - Tamiya (only one who makes 'em)
Matilda - Tamiya (also a monopoly)
Sherman - Tamiya (their Frontline Breakthrough version), Academy (only has one in Russian service, though)
