Hello all,
I just want to post yet another one of my projects. The soviet Maz-7911 by Modelcollect. i originally bought this so i can build a tractor for a "big bird" air search radar trailer. however, i cancelled work on it.
Instead, i just used it as a normal cargo truck and left the radar as a future project.
This model while nice and relatively straight forwards.
Sorry if i don't have many in progress pictures. i like to just get on with building.
This has engine interior. it is very detailed and its nice model collect focused on small details like this.
I built this truck so that you can remove the cabin to see the engine inside.
This painting is done by hand using Vallejo acrylics.
This is the Maz-7911 once completed.
I added some grey on the camouflage to make it look more interesting.
I also used washes and pigment for weathering and making the truck dirty. i used an airbrush to blow all the washes into recessed areas.
This is the Maz next to a paper model prototype of the big bird radar that i was going to build for it.
Here is the Maz carrying an iskader cruise missile.
And here is the Maz hauling My arsenal of missiles and bombs.
The flat bed was left detachable. mainly because i wanted to put i trailer hook on.
There seems to be a lack of detail at the rear. it would be better if there were tail lights in the model.
I still kept the trailer hook from the model just in case i need a tractor.
Lastly, the Detachable cabin. The Cabin is supposed to be glued on according to the instructions, however, that means you can't see the beautiful engine. so i modified the cabin so that i can insert and remove it from the truck. It is still difficult to remove the cabin but at least you can see the engine detail.
Thanks for seeing my blog,
Hyder

Hyder, have you ever noticed on the big radar trailer shown above, those last two trailer axles ARE POWERED! They have the planetary gear head hubs just like on the main vehicle rather than just the plain, blank hubs like on a MAZ civilian log hauling trailer.
That would mean these hubs possibly have electric drive booster motors in them just like on the earlier huge ICBM delivery trailers exhibited at the Strategic Missile Forces Museum in the Ukraine.
I find this a very exciting modeling prospect! But so far the lack of reference on this trailer has stopped me.

Micheal,
My ultimate goal is also to build an air search radar. i heard Modelcollect was coming out with one but i don't think its gonna be anytime soon.
i started work on it, but then i thought it was too much effort especially if Modelcollect will release one. However, when i checkes scalemates thay still don't have a release date for it.
this one of my progress photos
i've done more progress on the radar trailer since taking this photo, but i quit work and put it away for now.
I've decided to start over again on building the big bird radar in the future using a cannibalized s-300 truck for the trailer body.
At the moment i'm using a paper model to assist the construction of the big bird radar.
