Are there figures using the MG-34 with 50 round drum attached with the assistant gunner carrying extra drum ammo? I'm not sure how the assistant carried the extra drum ammo so I can't really explain the details of the extra ammo carriage.
Usually you see figures with the spare ammo carried in the large capacity box, but I assume that if the team was using the drum on the gun, the spare ammo would be carried in drums as well. Or is that a mistaken assumption?

The spare drums were carried in a frame carrier.

Thanks a lot! Yes I've seen images of that thing, but I wonder if the infantry schlepped it around, because I've not seen images of soldiers in the field with it, and AFAIK no one makes figures carrying that to go with figures armed with a drum-fed MG-34.

As I recall, the 50rd drum held part of a belt so if you wanted to put much in the way of continuous fire downrange a box containing a 250 rd belt was a better bet. Not sure what the scale of issue for the drums was to infantry units but I bet boxes were easier to get as well as being easier to maintain volume of fire.
