Hey guys, Im working on the TAKOM Marine M60 and I came across some pics of one with the SCAMS box mounted on the back. Ive seen the pics on prime Portal battlefield and in the Sabot pubs book but there seems to be very little in the way of real info or useage anywhere Ive looked. Hoping the hive mind here can help.

BLESS YOU TOP! First, what was the box called and what did it do ( broad strokes please. OPSEC), and was it only deployed on tanksvwith mine rollers or could other tanks have them? Also, do you have any pics of tanks that carried them? Getting the details right is important you know. Things like chevrons and serial numbers on the side. Not to mention the stowage config.

The box carried white metal disks with a chem stick attached. As the tank moved forward these disks would drop out of the bottom of the box and the chem sticks would flip up vertically. In the process the chem sticks would be bent and the glass vile broken so they would start to glow.

the only boxes I saw were part of the kit for the mine roller. That is not to say they couldn't just as easily been attached to any M60 series tank.

My tank had one and we had the mine roller mounts attached to my tank but they ran out of rollers to attach.

It was/is called the Cleared-LAne Marking System (CLAMS). It was used to mark a cleared lane through a minefield. It was usually attached to plow or roller tanks since they would be the ones clearing the lane. As Top says above, they dropped discs w/chemlights to mark the way.

They were attached at the bottom by fitting on the tow pintle. On the top there were two cables attached to the back decks rear lifting rings. The top of the box opened to load cylinders with the disks preloaded. There was an electrical cable that ran somewhere. There was an exhaust deflector between the box and the grill doors.

I will check tonight for serial # of the tank and anything else I can find for you.

Looks like the electrical cable goes into the phone box. Also, it appears that the exhaust shield is the "flat U" plate--the blue clevis is sttached to a reinforcing brace. Are these observations correct?

Does anyone know if they put the Lane marker system on a tank with a Dozer blade? I have the Verlinden set , but If I have to I can cannibalize my Panther2 kit to get a mine roller. Just didnt want to do all the work to make it fit...thought the weathering opportunities intrigue me. Having scratchbuilt the heat shield and mount and used the old Verlinden CLAMS/SCAMS box I've finished the back half of this conversion.

Not usually. A dozer tank is primarily used to dig in and clear obstacles, not to clear mine fields.

Plows and rollers are used for clearing mine fields. Usually, the roller tanks go first to run into and ID the minefield. Then the plows come up and clear a lane. Lastly, the rollers go through to proof and mark the cleared lane.
