what are the items circled in this picture? the parts of the turret circled are actually broken but they normally look like railcar bumpers. I often times find pictures like this where this part is broken. The second item looks to me to perhaps be cyclinders containing fuel but I am not sure. What are these items

Number 2 looks like a couple of tanks for welding. The stubs on the turret look like part of the casting of the weighted mock turret.

Might the 'bumpers' be heavy duty lifting lugs?

Possible, but if they were, they were cut off. Those don't look big enough to attach anything to.

Found a picture with the ends not cut/broken off. They do look like railrcar bumpers. See first pic here:

The dummy turret was cast iron or steel (I did the math, concrete wouldn't duplicate the mass of the assembled turret). So there were gates and risers to admit the metal and void the trapped gas. The stubs were hacked off, probably for rail clearance, shortly after rollout (V1 had them removed before shipment).

yeah they were cast dummy turrets...never thought that they could be casting plugs...interesting...this would probably be why I always saw pictures of them broken
