I was working at my desk when I happended to look at some dicarded staples. They look like grab handles that people fashion from wire. Given the wide vairety and size of staples could these be used as grab handles on AFVs. Has this been done before?

Most definitely. Just collect the sizes you require. Great call.

I have not done it, mainly because I do not have then lying around the house.

I totally agree. And I would use them where applicable. I'm a big fan of detail to your satisfaction and fun. With that said - be careful becuase staples are square in shape and some grab handles are round. It all depends on scale and application.

It's a copious cheap source so I am personally all for it.

Indeed they could work very well where applicable. Just bear in mind that most staples are "flat" in the diameter area where as grap handles are "round".

To get the round effect, try putting a little thin supper glue on the staple after it's installed. I've heard of this trick used to round out PE people in some of the ship scales.

Nice Idea. Something that I had not thought about. But then too I use basic copper wire for that sort of detail items. Either way. Good Luck.

Sorry. I thought of that before.
I recall thinking: "If I ever make an armor model these little thingies would make perfect crabs!" and right after it: "What the heck. They are more fun to shooting with a rubber band! They even attach to a note board!"

Great idea even though I scratch build on an average per model about 60% of a kit. #:-)

Not all staples are flat. Check out the staples that hold magazines together. I worked at a bindery several years ago and the machine that stapled magazines together used large coils of wire, then clipped and bent each staple before it went into the spine of the book. I nagged a few scraps of this wire out of the trash bin one day and have been using it for handles and antennas ever since. I probably got 30 feet of the stuff in one small grab. Nice steel wire, too. It's not quite as hard or stiff as piano wire or wire guitar strings, and it doesn't seem to want to rust (possibly stainless steel? -- I don't know.).
