Hey All,
Hope everyone had a GREAT Christmas and added lots of goodies to their stash
I am getting ready to embark on building the rye field late tiger http://tiger1.info/models/products-page/RM5015 and it need zimmerit. I have never tried doing my own with putty and would prefer the decals. Any idea if the following will work.

any help is much appreciated
Thank you and Happy NEW YEAR

I am not crazy about photo etched Zimmerit, as offered by Eduard. It tends to look more like aluminum siding rather than a layer of putty. Still. if you use filler on every edge and joint, and add a few "mistakes" with dabs of putty, it can look okay. Biggest problem with a Tiger is the awkwardly shaped mantlet, as the small bits of photo etch have to be added piecemeal and puttied to look like a single layer of material.
The Tamiya Zimmerit stickers have not gotten good press. They are thick, and reportedly, the edges tend to curl.
There are alternatives. Cavalier and Atak have resin Zimmerit, which includes entire resin replacement parts for awkward areas, like the mantlet. Apply with five minute epoxy for best results (super glue tends to "grab" resin very quickly, offering no time to adjust the position).
And DEF Models offers actual Zimmerit decals, which are resin molded onto decal film, and applied like any waterslide decal.

Atak offers a Zimmerit set for the mid Tiger Version. This would be the same as for the late one ex one single small point on the back armour, which would not be seen between the excausts.
Or keep on waiting a few weeks and I am shure atak did the job

Here is a link to another recent thread dealing with the same topic. (Be sure to check out the later posts on this thread.)
My vote: it looks like the ATAK zimmerit products probably win out, hands down, every time!

I like the decals and stickers for their simplicity, ease of use(no superglue required, yay) and it's easier on my budget.
BUT, nothing beats ATAK for the product to depict zimmerit.
I've done putty. I've carved with a hot knife. Scribed the actual plastic with a sharp blade in smaller scales, the stickers, decals and photo etch. ATAK is simply the best.

Hi Jeff,
I just saw this thread and wanted to let you know that we make a zimmerit set for the Tiger I that might work for you.
We designed it to fit the Tamiya kit but it might accidentally fit your kit as well.
Our zimmerit sets are laser etched paper and are easy to apply and fun to battle damage. I don't know if the link to the page will show up here. I can't figure out how to preview this post.
