I know they are tan or OD but what paint colors (Tamiya or Vallejo) do folks like to use to represent those colors?

Depending on how new or worn the green ones could range between XF-67 NATO Green to XF-65 Field Grey. I'd mix the paint to get something that matched my old set and my service photos.

Thanks, I like that idea of XF-67 NATO Green with maybe a little Deck Tan for the weathered look.

What about sand coveralls, maybe XF-78 Wooden Deck tan?

Alex mentioned Gunze (H27) in another thread and it looks like Vallejo 70.914 or Tamiya XF78:XF49 3:1 mix is a close match.

Stephen is correct. I've seen NOMAX clors from brand new NATO green color to real faded Olive Drab color.

In the Vallejo range for the green NOMAX, I use 70.890 Reflective Green or 70.688 Olive Grey or 70.887 Brown Violet. For tan Nomax, I use 70.819 Iraqui Sand.

Oh, don't forget the time line. Today US tankers are wearing the OCP (multi cam) NOMAX. A few years back, the ACU pattern NOMAX was used. I am not sure on dates.

The person good on wear dates is Gino (HeavyArty).

What I do is I use a color photo (available in NUMEROUS books, magazines and pamphlets) and then I mix and match on my color palette. I differ from most guys, as I STILL like to use the TESTORS MODEL MASTER II Enamels... For the GREEN NOMEX Suits, I like to start with FS 34086 GREEN DRAB as my base color, and then I will add a touch of PANZER DUNKELGELB, a Medium Light Gray, or FS 34087 OLIVE DRAB, OR virtually anything ELSE that may strike my fancy. To highlight, I just add a little bit more of the lighter DUNKELGELB and/or Medium Light Gray.

For the "TAN" or KHAKI variety of NOMEX Suits, I will use FS 30219 TAN as my Base Color, and highlight with AFRIKA BRAUN...

To achieve a "DEAD FLAT" finish on the Suits, I will dip the very tip of my mixing-brush into some WHITE, CREAM YELLOW, or LIGHT GRAY WEATHERING POWDER and then apply that to the paint that I've deposited onto my mixing palette. I keep this moistened with regular TESTORS Enamel Thinner...

Correct Ryan, Marines only wear tan or green NOMAX with the "coyote brown" body armor.

As for body armor, Marines and Army body armor is different.

Thanks Dennis. That info is helpful. I ask because for a lack of a better term, I am color dumb. I understand what you are saying but my experice has different when I attempt it.Think pintrest flops but with colors. I don't have anything against other paint ranges, just trying to simplify my paint range and hopefully get better results sticking with a few and understanding how they work.

Thought about creating another post but this seemed to fit this topic I started just as well.

I need some help on the next steps to improve the figure. Leaving as is after attaching the head and try something different on the next figure is an ok comment and also what I might do.

US Army highlights 332 body
Desert Yellow 977 boots
Citadel Earth shade
Thinned 332 over some high points

Flesh hands mix
Cork brown 834
Ivory 918
Citadel Sepia





What I see off the bat is I was too heavy with the shade and I should have added a lighter color to 332 to tone it down on top of the water to thin the paint. I do like the boots.
