Hi folks,
About to start building a Tamiya AMX 13. I've been hard pressed to find information regarding Cold War French vehicle base colors. What would have this amx13 been painted with? I've seen Olive Drab mentioned, as well as Olive Green. I'm usually not super strict about the correct shade of paint but as I have never built a postwar French vehicle before, I was hoping to find a good base color (and maybebhistory!) to start with. Thanks!

According to this thread :
http://www.small-tracks.org/t15632-quelle-peinture-pour-mon-amx-13-1-35-tamiya
the FS equivalent for this color is FS34087 :
BUT according to this other thread :

Humbrol 102 is a good match...

Thanks for posting those leads mate! Yeah, I'm actually confused because the color that Tamiya recommends (AS-14) is called olive green but is described as being used on US Aircraft in Vietnam . But some people have named the color as Olive Drab... so yeah.

I'm a keen modeller of French armour - though with more unbuilt than completed;for a decent French Army green I use Tamiya AS-6 USAAF Olive Drab.
This is an aerosol paint so that probably qualifies me as a lazy modeller (and you might be right) but based on memory and time on exercise with the French Army I feel this comes pretty close. There again, is it just me who goes through life seeing all with a Humbrol (or similar) colour chart as my focal point of reference?
I'm sure Olivier Carneau will respond soon with an accurate solution.

Thanks for the tip mate. AS-6 converts to Tamiya XF-62 according to charts available online. I've also read elsewhere that this color looks OK for a weathered/worn French vehicle. If this is the case, then I might go for this (although some way to distinguish the color of the tank from my US shermans would be appreciated haha)

The colour you would be looking for is most likely the one in the middle on this photo, called "Vert Armee":

Thanks Frenchy and Tony! Really thankful that google translate exists for these articles. Makes understanding them a lot easier.
My problem now lies with the fact that multiple sources point to several colors haha. Searching through the internet for other 1/35 AMX-13 builds also yields different recommendations.

Hello Nigel
here is my Tamiya AMX 13 painted in a mix of XF-13,XF-58 and XF-3
I also painted an EBR (same period) with XF-13 only. Here it is.
The French army used a green called Vert Armee IR (for infrared). It was not an olive drab.

this is exactly what I was looking for. Thank you very much! Great build on the Amx13 as well I might go for the XF13 as it's gonna be less problematic than mixing some colors
