Hi Guys
A couple of questions re: AFV Club 35251 Sdkfz251/9 Type C
1. The radio does not come with or transformer or receiver, where I can source the aftermarket part?
2. Any recommendation for aftermarket "German 75mm Short Ammo Boxes with Decals" - Solved
https://www.bnamodelworld.com/scenics-diorama-boxes-cartons-reality-in-scale-ris-35241
3. I would like to have some small items (helmet, jerrycans, etc) hung on the side of vehicle (picture below). How they managed to do it in the real life, by hook rack or string? Any scratch built or aftermarket parts are needed?
4. How they fix the spare track links on the hull? Any aftermarket part?
5. How many crews are for the short barrel 75mm gun?

I'm sure Verlinden done a upgrade for the 251/9 but might have to sort it off ebay and not sure if it come with radio.
Try finding an old Tamiya kit there cheap enough as a donor kit.
Crew was about 8.
Stowage probably wire/rope or strong string even weld for spare tracks additional armour.

The cord holding the track in place is visible running across the front plate. Seems to be hung on some hooks. Its piled around the one light mount on the opposite fender.

The radio for SdKfz 251/9 is FuSprech. Which is a single unit transmitter and receiver. The transformer is Umformer SEUa. The transformer is fastened to the side of the hull under the radio. I have a downloaded image showing the arrangement, but I am not smart enough to attach images.
MR Modellbau has a set of resin radios and transformers. There may be other after market manufacturers. MR Modellbau link:

I don't have the AFV model so I looked at your build up picture. On the top lip of the hull sides are rectangular lumps, 2 on each side near the front and rear. Those actually are open, sort of a closed squared lift U.
In many pictures those U's are what things are attached to. In your side view picture I think there is the faint line of a cord or wire stretched between the U's that the helmets are fixed to using the chin strap. I have a good picture of a 251 C radio with helmets on the sides hung by the chin strap. The Jerry can on the rear is right about where the rear U is placed. Leather straps are common and are probably what many things are attached with.
As already mentioned the spare track are attached with a rope. If you follow the ends up to the hull nose there is another rectangular holed fitting bolted to the nose that the rope runs through. In many pictures the fittings are hidden behind the lights, but are there.

There is a rail which runs along the top of the hull side (both sides) on the inboard side. From this, the helmets would have been hung by their straps. As for the tracks, I agree with the other comments in that they were probably wired on (tracks are heavy).

In the pictures I have found, on the 251/9 C and early D versions (the gun inset in the hull) the rails were not installed. On the late D versions (gun mounted on top of the hull) the rails are there, perhaps because the late version used a normal 251 as a base.
My only reference with clear interior pictures is the Sturm and Drang 250/251 book and I came up empty on google.
Does the AFV model have you install the rails?

What is the rank of the commander of Sdfkz 251/9 Stummel? Unteroffizer?
The space is pretty tight for 8 people, Could it be Commander, Loader, Gunner, Radio Operator plus Driver?

Did you add the plates that close off the gun sockel? These were post war additions, added by the Panzer Museum Munster...

Crew. I would think 4. Driver, radio operator, gunner and commander. The gun space and the space needed to work with the ammo when firing would consume most of the usable space. The radio operator could easily have been the loader. If you notice there is no room for the radio operator to work/sit if the gun is in operation. The loader consumes that space.
Yes, an unterofficer could be in charge.

James,
You should remove parts DD7 and DD19. Also remove the small sloping part (facing the rear) of part DD8. Source: Panzer tracts 15-3.

Thank you Marc. I was not aware of this research work and unfortunately I have painted most of the vehicle. It is a bit too late now.
Appreciate your advice anyway!

Add part U32 (the storage "shelf") to the side wall, above the ammo locker. The leather cushion was not installed on this one.

James,
I was curious about the number of the crew and did a lot of looking. However, I came up with nothing about the crew. I did a head count on the few pictures I found showing the crew and counted 3 to 5 soldiers. As you said there isn't much room in there, so I think 4 would be right, with the loader or commander operating the radio. Any more than that and someone would be in the way during combat.
It looks like your model is coming along well. How do you like the kit?

I highly recommended if you wanna do a sdkfz 251/9, especially the 75mm cannon is rich of details. It is the best shot so far except for a number of cons:
1. the radio has no transformer and speaker parts.
2. No ammo box for spare rounds.
3. Rubber track...
4. a few research errors mentioned by Marc in this thread.
You can source aftermarket parts for all the radio (1120 production) and ammo box (Reality in Scale). The kit is very well made IMO.

Panzer tracts also mentions that the vehicle had a crew of three. Commander, gunner and driver.

Interesting information, thanks. I would bet the commander brought along another man to act as loader.
