I have been working on practicing on my figure painting. My first project was an Historex figure of Murat based on the following painting:

The process:

I started with the tiger skin saddle, which I thought was the most challeging part.



Then followed with the horse.

Mind you, this figure is probably over 40 years old. The detail is not the best, but I think it came out fair.

Next set of figures is "the duelists" from Andrea miniatures:

Next figure is this fellow from Paracel:








Since I don't particularly like the Barcelona soccer team, nor Messi, I went with Cristiano Ronaldo's jersey from The Real Madrid team.





I am planning on using this guy in a future diorama.

Next figure is this scuba trooper from dragon:








This figure is also pretty old, so the detail level is not great.

I don't think I've ever seen a Football Jersey with the Name on the front as shown on the box art!!

No doubt a "foreign-made" figure and painter- The person that did that work just needed to do a little bit more "homework"...

THIS is why research is essential... Or, it could be that the figure put his t-shirt on BACKWARDS!!!

Your figures came out a bit more than "fair", I would say. Pretty darned good! Keep it up and your figures will become better and better as time goes on...

Give me a HISTOREX Figurine ANY TIME!!! All they really need is a little bit of TLC and one can turn any one of them into REAL STUNNERS!!! You'd be surprised with what a little bit of "extra work" with an X-Acto Knife can accomplish to enhance details on your figurines! HISTOREX Horses can be improved by adding a shim or two between the halves of the horses' bodies- HISTOREX Horses have always had bodies that were a little bit "too skinny", especially Mares... Personally, I'd like to see more articles about figurines on ARMORAMA- Figurines can open up whole new dimensions in the display of Armor and Soft-skins. Many of the models that are displayed on this site are beautifully done- I see no reason why figures shouldn't become a greater part of the "whole". All it takes is a bit of practice in mastering the techniques of figure-painting...

Have you tried any of the NEMROD resin figurines yet? The detail is a bit finer than the HISTOREX plastic figurines, and there is a bit wider choice of eras...

I agree, most of the military hardware i have built is always accompanied by figures. Firstly I think it helps to give a reference to the size of the vehicles. And secondly it adds a whole new dimenssion to model building.
As to the Nemrod figures, I used 2 afghani civilians in one of my recent dioramas. They were great.

Dennis, do you know how old the Historex molds are?

This next figure is the first batch a friend of mine is starting to produce. I am planning on using it in a diorama, not shure of the layout yet. I just think it is so cool.

One slight comment would be that a semi-gloss might work a bit better on the mouth interior of the hippo.

Thank you Deathdork. I did use Vallejo satin varnish, but it didn't look shiny enough. So I added a coat of gloss varnish, and I think it is ok now. Will post pics soon. For Now it is going to the Master's competition in Merida, Yucatan, Mexico next weekend.

Curious how you use the hippo, and the scuba trooper as well.
