A single of it's kind, short-lived demo-vehicle.
The designation is a misleading creation of KMW PR-office.
Perfect for friends of very special none-fielded AFVs.

Pretty anticlimactic. Wish they did a Strv 122 instead

I would love to get a great Leopard German MBT kit. I don't know if this is the one, but Meng kits are superb.

Too bad that it doesn’t have a dozer blade.

That's the Leopard 2 PSO not the 2A7+. The PSO also had the L44 gun

I know it's a one-off demonstrator, but can't see any reason to complain about that - after all the fuss folks made over that Russian tank last year that broke down on its maiden parade in Red Square! And all those "paper panzers" that barely got further than Hitler's cocktail napkin. Me? I'm just interested in whether it's a good likeness of the real prototype - I can then decide if I want one for my collection.

As for wishing they made whatever my own hobby-horse happens to be, I won't let that ruin their day!

Seriously? The hobby is full of kits like this or those esoteric small production aircraft, armor what have you. I will say this....at least there was one (1) produced and that the RWS would/will be outfitted in the future.

I read a design proposal for an urban warfare Leo 2 some time back and while this one addresses most issues raised in the study it missed several crucial ones. On that basis I recently picked up one of Tiger Model's Leopard II Revolution II kits (#4628) which is an excellent kit with what appears to be great detail fidelity and superb Tamiya-like engineering and fit on the parts. As a proposal it appears to present its case well, or as well as anything on tracks that gets caught in an urban environment can and still survive. And it looks darned impressive to boot! My vote would be for that kit over the A7 proposal. I am kicking around painting mine in a modified Berlin Brigade Urban scheme, though the masking is a bit of a repetitive pain.

I'm confused, some folks are saying this is a one off demonstrator, but google is saying otherwise. Sounds like Qatar has taken deliveries and Hungary just inked a deal to buy 44.

All different variant for Qatar. The version sold to Qatar is a lot different than the variant offering from MENG. It has a lot different turret, side baskets and different RWS. The turret is most like LEO2A6 HEL. Qatar's variant is the conversion offered by Y-MODELLE: http://www.y-modelle.de/leopard-2-a7plus-2015-p-3233.html

The PSO variant was announced by HOBBYBOSS in the past according to following LINK: https://armorama.kitmaker.net/forums/168100#2315987
but no news since then

Apologies if i'm misunderstanding the post, but the Y-Modelle conversion is NOT for the PSO version. There are no engine deck components or dozer blade.

Ignore me- just re-read the post. My bad. The formatting on the comments box gave the original post a completely different look.

OK, which one is the "right" one? Both are OOS at Sprue Bros. right now.

Hi Bill,

Both kits are great - it just depends on which version of the Leopard you like best. Personally I prefer the earlier 2A4 with its clean boxy turret, before they started adding all the extra angled armour and stuff that makes modern Leopards look cluttered. Then again, I prefer the older Leopard 1 to the bigger Leopard 2 series...

So more googling and it would seem this is actually the 2A7V, not the 2A7+. New version for the German MOD.

Right one in which sense?
One is for the older 2A4 version, vertical turret front,
and the other is the 2A7 which has an arrow shaped front to the turret. So they are both right depending on what you are looking for. I haven't kept track of what the "latest and greatest" is when it comes to Leopards.
If you asked about the best kit for Leopard 2A7 in a separate thread it would probably attract the real Leo-experts and get you some good answers.
Just to add to the confusion:

2A5 by Tamiya

2A6 by Tamiya

2A6 by Italeri

HobbyBoss

Revell
Edit: This was/is revells own plastic:

but this one is an Italeri rebox:

Edited to correct mistakes regarding the origin of the two Revell kits, see post by Ed Granger below
