Can someone confirm the turret on this Sherman for me? I believe it is a D50878 "recycled" turret, but there are no visor openings in the commander's cupola. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Has features of a remanufactured early M4A1. The vision blocks on the commanders cupola are there, but are painted over, or look that way due to the camera angle.

The turret looks to be a plain low bustle turret that has some post war upgrades.

One of the detail shots in the walk around shows a casting #D50878 on the right side of the turret!.
I will assume the vision ports were painted over when it was put on display.Thanks again for your assistance and of the other replyers.

It's a rebuilt M4A1 that appears to have had a piece of galvanized pipe welded in place over the gunner's sight to make it resemble the POA-CWS-H5 flamethrower tanks designed in Hawaii by the Chemical Warfare Section near the end of WW2 for the USMC. These conversions were done on M4A3 howitzer tanks, not dry-stowage M4A1's, and eventually saw action with the US Marines in Korea. So, unless it's some forgotten prototype that was somehow moved from Hawaii to Fort Leonard Wood, I would assume that this display is just a piece of postwar "imagineering."
