I am looking for a good reference book on the Panzer IV,I have ordered the Border models Panzer IV Ausf G and also the Dragon kit to do a side by side build on both kits.
I need to find out more information on the G variants and the difference between the Krupp version vs the Vomag version.
I plan on doing them both as Kursk vehicles and also trying to match the same regiment. Both kits come with L/43 and L/48 guns which is also confusing.
Thanks

In addition to Panzer Tracts No. 4, here are a few more that might help.
Panzerkampwagen IV and Its Variants 1935-1945 (The Spielberger German Armor and Military Vehicle Series)
Panzer IV & Its Variants (The Spielberger German Armor & Military Vehicles, Vol IV)
Panzerkampfwagen IV Ausf.G, H and J 1942–45
Panzer IV: The Panzerkampfwagen IV Medium Tank, 1939-1945 - Armor Specials series
Panzer IV: 1939-1945
The first Ausf. G's, and redesignated Ausf. F2's, had the original L/43 Main Gun. In April 1943, this was replaced with the L/48 Main Gun. Therefore, a March 1942-April 1943 production vehicle will have the L/43 Gun. An April-June 1943 production vehicle will have the L/48 Gun.

I too just asked to join Steve's group. My Panzer IV is due to arrive in Feb. 14. I'm like a little kid waiting for Santa.

For factory specifics, I'd recommend the books by Craig Ellis. One published by Blurb, and two by Peko.
Blurb:

Peko:
Pz IV #1

Pz IV #2
https://pekobooks.com/books/panzer-iv-on-the-battlefield-2/
Craig Ellis covers details like the position of headlights and tools, specific to manufacturers.
