See pic guys -- wondering about the orientation of the two outermost/side by side bolts in the center hub of the wheels.

In my drawings in Achtung Panzer No. 6, I see them all lined up and pointing up, just the opposite on the pics in the Strummoeser RFM instructions.

I would think they would all be random in rotation but before I glue, I wanted to check in with the experts. How should they appear? Random or Aligned?

Those two bolts next to the big center nut are part of a retainer that works to keep the big main bearing wheel retainer nut from coming loose. The question is: does that center bearing housing rotate with the wheel or is it stationary. That I cannot answer.

I suspect it rotates, which means all those bolts would appear at different orientation angles on each rolling wheel. I would try looking for photos on line to see if each wheel is at it's own angle.

If you saw a drawing where, lets say, all the bolts where exactly vertical then I suspect it was a drawing done on a computer and the artist drew the wheel one time and then did a "copy and repeat" to draw the rest of the road wheels. Doing it that way they would all come out at exactly the same angle.

So far I cannot find a photo of high enough resolution to answer your question. So far the only thing I have found is a Tiger I with several of those bearing covers leaking oil and the overnight oil drips are all pointing in different directions which tells me the center cups rotate with the wheels but I will keep looking.

Hopefully Frenchy will get in on this search. His ability to produce amazing reference photos is like no one else on this site!

Parking enforcement officers used these bolts to check if the tank had been moved or not. This is important for parkings where one is allowed to park for a specific time or one is allowed to stop for a few minutes but not park for a longer period.
If the position of the bolts, compare to the dials on the face of a watch, has changed it means that the tank has been moved while the PEO was not present. If the angles are the same it is time to write a parking ticket.

As a Plan B, in case they have no watch (or if the wheel has no visible bolts), they often use some spray paint
