Any information regarding a release date for the RFM M551 Sheridans? Their fB info is rather dated on this subject.

Good question. I preordered one from Lucky Model a while back.

Good question, I'm interested too, as the Tamiya M551 Vietnam version appears less suitable for a post-Vietnam M551A1, as used on the inter-German border in the 70s, or in Panama or DS/DS). Last I heard, this kit was coming out in 2019-- that's about it,

I was just checking on the release date-- I see several places (HLJ for one) are listing this as a March 2019 release. Let's hope that holds. I also see at least one place (BNA) listing it for $79.95. At that price, I'd think we'd expect some good things in the box!

WOW!!! $80 BUCKS!!! That sounds like a lot of money, BUT! In one of the other forums on this site, I explained plastic injection "slide-molding" as compared to "conventional" plastic injection molding. "Slide-molding" is a very different ballgame; the molds are much more complicated and much more expensive to tool.

I imagine that this new Sheridan will be slide-molded, so the seemingly high MSRP is probably justified. I'm going to wait to buy this thing, (or two), until AFTER I've read a few actual "in-hand" build -reviews...

There are not many new kits manufactured these days that don't utilize slide-molding. It is quite common now. Tamiya M551 Sheridan also has a few slide molded parts - including the beautiful upper hull, grenade launchers and main gun barrel.

Tamiya kit is fine for 1970s tank in Germany - there were still a lot of original M551s there at that time.

BNA price is in Australian dollars. AU$80 is approx US$57.
Lucky Model list it for US$49.99.

Actually, that's a very early 70s staged "propaganda" photo from the 11th ACR. By 1976, most of the M551s had been replaced in the 11th ACR by the A1 version. I was a platoon leader in 2/11 ACR 77-79, and all ours were A1 models (I'd been in the tank company before that--76-77), and the last of the M551s were being shipped out, replaced by the A1-- and most of the "slick" M551s were being rebuilt to A1 standards, so you didn't s see many "slick" M551s in Europe after 76'. And after 76' most were re-painted in the MERDC schemes. Keep in mind though, the Sheridan was sent to Vietnam as an experiment-- and that's where the problems with the main gun gas scavenging system and mine susceptibility were discovered, leading to the CBSS, extra armor plate and other improved features that were later adopted for Europe. I agree, the Tamiya kit could be adapted for an early European Sheridan, but only for a narrow window of time.

I had to do a double take; at first glance, I thought this was a diorama... a very well done one nonetheless.

I pre-ordered one through Ammo by Mig when it was first posted back in November, or December. The initially scheduled for delivery was February 2019. In mid January I received an email from them that due to a delay in production the release date to Ammo was postponed until May 2019.
