Yup, not that uncommon. I was stationed there for 3 years. It happened often, usually a light dusting, but Tiefort could be snow-capped all winter.

Yep, I had a Company command split between Lewis and Irwin back in 1982-84. We decided to get out of the rain and drive down there to visit my troops in January. I took my Family and stayed in Barstow at the Howard Johnson(they didn't have much for guest housing at Irwin back then), with the idea of going on leave in LA and seeing Disneyland that weekend. Imagine my chagrin when I got up the morning after arriving and saw a couple inches of snow on the ground at Barstow-- more than we got all winter that year at Lewis. It was gone by the afternoon though, and we enjoyed a balmy 75 degree visit to Disneyland that weekend. Later in my career I visited one other time it snowed there. Then again, I woke up one July 4th in Wildflecken only to see snow on hill 808 too. Weather is unpredictable in these places-- that's why the Army chooses them-- nobody else wants to live there!

Interesting...
I remember it as a bit balmy, a tad warm.

Ya know what? We've had some form of nasty precip for MOST of our days this Winter in the Beautiful Southern Tier of New York State, and I am HEARTILY SICK OF IT! Gee, we only have to put up with this until the first week of May... (a shrug and a sigh)
Oh well, here's to YOU at NTC!!!

I used to have a "Bicycle Lake Yacht Club" T-shirt. Good inside joke.

I lived near NAS Pt. Mugu for 36 years. I-15 near Irwin was usually shut down for snow at least once a winter. I-5 (Ft. Tejon, my old stomping grounds) a couple times. Cuesta Grade (Camp Bob / SLO frequently too. Snow is not unccommon. egas gets screwed with their once a decade snow. McCarran Airport has NO snow removal or de icing equipment. Just gotta gamble more at the casinos till the snow melts.

My boss at the hobby shop goes to Nevada every winter to escape the New England winters and always makes sure to tell me how beautiful and warm it is out in Boulder City - this year, not so much . I'll take this New England winter so far over the one we had in 2015 ANY DAY...

A friend took these the other day while I was driving. One of the easier drives I've had since being at Fort McCoy. Spotted Cow helps. I do so love winter training.

The majority of our business is brick and mortar, but we do take phone orders and will mail kits.
