On p.24 of the Tankograd book 'Nederlandse Troepen', there are two Land Rovers in what appears to be a distinctly brown colour. I had always assumed that the colour would have been dark green, and thought that perhaps there was a colour shift in the printing of the photo. However, the other colours (particularly on the Dutch flag marking, and the yellow number-plate) seem to be correct. So maybe vehicles were at one time dark brown. But then again, the uniform of the soldier standing next to the Airportable Land Rover is also brown, rather than what I would have expected ... olive green.

Our LR‘s have always been Olive drab.
And fanatic drivers sometimes ‚washed‘ it with mud for camo purposes.
It is therefore most likely the printing.
Can you show us?

Just as I thought.
There are photos in the Tankograd book of Dutch Land Rovers daubed with patches of mud, but the colour of the two in question is a solid paintwork finish. The fact that the soldier appears to be wearing dark brown combat trousers and jacket (which I assume should be olive drab colour) suggests that the vehicle's brown paintwork is a result of colour shift in the photo.

It is simply a matter of light on the paint, although this seems to be a typical Dutch affair, as I hardly ever see green on foreign vehicles turn into brown (not talking about applied mud etc).
Here are two images of Dutch LR Ambulances, both painted in the same colour

I agree it's a very brown olive drab.

Be sure: having spent 39 years between them, it is olive!
However! Some of these vehicles faded somewhat due to the place they wee used.
Some depots used ‚informal‘ stock which was not in a regular maintenance program. So,(re) painting was not done

On enquiring of Dutch modellers and 1:1 enthusiasts a while ago, I was assured that, prior to NATOflage, Dutch military vehicles were painted the same as Bundeswehr vehicles of the same era - in Gelboliv, a brownish colour widely available in several ranges of paint.
