Nice update on the texturing. On the A1 I had to use a lot of surfacer and a like amount of sanding.

The upper and lower hull along with the lower turret half are straight from the A1 and will need the surfacer treatment.

well, crud.......
On the A-1, I remember now that I used little filler, but burned through a couple of coarse sanding sticks to reduce the excessive texture of the hull.

I’m not a rivet counter by any stretch but wondering if it’s possible to do an accurate Vietnam era CEV with the AFV Club kit. I read that the early M728 was based on the M60 hull and most of the later A1s were on old A2 hulls. The kit provides the hull sprues from their A1 kit. If the differences were purely internal then I’ll just drive on and be happy with kit and provided markings.

The AFV Club kit is accurate for an M728 in Vietnam.
The original M60 had a modified M48 turret on an M60 hull and was not used to build M728s. The M60A1 was the first version w/the longer M60 turret and was used to build M728s. M60A2s hulls were used to build late model (late '80s) M60 AVLBs, not M728s.

It wasn't a "modified M48 turret". It was a new turret, that was similar in shape and layout to the M48 turret.

Ok, either way, it was not the same turret as used on the M60A1 nor the M728.
