After doing about a full year of modern IDF AFV's, I've gotten a bit numb of doing the normal "Israeli Desert Grey" paint scheme......not much to the imagination there......so I've been toying around with the idea of spicing things up a bit, even if it might fall into the realm of "what if". Even though I do not play or participate in the computer on-line game of Armored Warfare, I have noticed that players in the game add some quite interesting and unique camo schemes to their fighting vehicles. I was wondering if anyone has done this on a real kit, or knows of anyone that might be able to give me some pointers of how to proceed? Some examples would be:

It would require a LOT of tedious masking 
Some of the patterns are "easier" or a least on the same level of difficulty as any "normal, real world" hard edged pattern.
For the mesh patterns I wonder if it would be possible to use some kind of real mesh.
Paint the orange, hold down a mesh and carefully fill in with black/very dark grey. Narrow masking tape would probably do the job better though (but with more work ...)

The second link might be effective but you have to keep in mind the purpose of camouflage. Usually, it is meant to hide or conceal. A dazzle scheme is meant to make it difficult to judge size or distance. Today's laser range finders make dazzle ineffective. The other 3 links schemes are the here I am, shoot me schemes. Another thing to consider is the skill it takes to apply the scheme. Can the average guy apply the scheme/paint or will it be a factory team that is required?
If a gaming signature paint is wanted, Look at some of the Flying Circus paint schemes from WW1 or the Dazzle schemes from WW2 ships. You could try a mirror paint scheme so when you backed into the brush it looked like the brush.

Robin makes a good point with that Berlin camo on the Chieftain....even though it's bright, it's purpose was not to hide or conceal, but to breakup the silhouette of the tank within an urban environment. I figure that some of these I'm considering (as well as others) could serve the same or similar purpose.

Way back in the '80s, I did a "What-If" using the lower half of an old TAMIYA M60A1 mated to an equally old TAMIYA M551 Turret that I "souped-up" with various "stand-off" weaponry. The paint job was kind of wild- I started with an FS 34087 OD base-color, and then I airbrushed on a medium-to-Dark Gray (FS 36081) "cloud-pattern", after which, I applied a lightened, smaller "cloud-pattern" of Field Drab (FS 30118)... Lastly, I applied smaller "blotches" of Medium Brown (FS 30252) and Green Drab (FS 34086), overall... The thing looked SICK!!! I was almost embarrassed to place it with my other stuff that I keep behind glass.
Don't know what happened to it... I'm sure that it's tucked away in a box somewhere at the other house. I'm able to refer back to the colors and particulars of my models because I keep an inventory file-system of my built and un-built stuff... I'm just too lazy to check right now, it being Sunday and all that...

But that said, I used them as 'positive' masks (or is it negative?) placing the cut out centers of the hexes down in layers on a sci-fi project.
The hex set comes with three sizes, I used the smallest two of them here.
I have not sprayed cammo through the 'net' yet, but hope to soon on the Gundam hovertruck.
Their youtube videos show the effects on sci-fi ships.

Mike, looks sharp. I went ahead and ordered a few of their stencils this morning, hoping that they will help me do the job. Got the hex mesh and the digi-camo, but all the others look quite interesting also.

CAC : Yes. Colombian Army. When the Dutch had the fire sale on their armor Finland jumped on the Leo 2 A6s. With their neighbors to the east getting more and more rabid I thought Colombia might be interested in some first grade armor. Added A/C to the rear of the turret, some extra stowage and bumped up the loader's gun to a .50 cal. (The better to shred the jungle!)

Hope all are staying safe. I've been holed up here in my apartment in Queens NYC trying to keep safe from Covid. Under normal conditions my wife has a problem with me taking over a corner of the dining room table in order to practice my hobby (no room for a workbench in these small apartments), but she finally gave in (at least for now). Trying to finally start on this project of doing different camos based on some that I have seen in Armored Warfare PC game.
