I am doing some research on mid 1960s M113a1 APC. It has been suggested that APCs delivered directly from FMC were painted in Khaki brown. Checking US Army colours it may be Field drab which has a brown flavour to the colour. Can anyone confirm this

I can't confirm (or deny) anything. But as an Armor Officer at the Armor school in 1976, I went through the Motor Officer course, where we "practiced" mechanical dis-assembly and (hopefully) re-assembly of many types of military vehicles-- including the M113, M60 and others (all first editions of these vehicles) which were designated for mechanical training only. These vehicles had a semi-gloss brown-khaki green color, usually found on US Army equipment of the early 60s, and very close to Tamiya Khaki Green Drab, which is an almost "muddy brown" color. this might be what you are referring to.

Color was Olive Drab. It's an olive color with a brownish green cast. In the 1960's it was usually semi-gloss. The color was used from WW1 until 1974. Corresponds to flat FS34088, or semigloss FS24084, in the current FS-595B color guide. Tamiya Olive Drab is good, but might need a dash of brown.

Gerald is right; FS24084 (semi-gloss) is the ticket...
