Ammo by Mig paint VS enamel thinner

Has anyone else had an issue with AMMO by Mig Paint vs enamel thinner? I used their OD set and attempted to do a oil Dot filter using humbrol enamel thinner and the undercoat melted leaving brush strokes etc...Should I have sealed it? Everything I have read, watched etc online has said, "no". What did I do wrong?

No... being acrylic it should not be affected. The plastic was clean? Paint well shaken? primer below? what type?

Check check check, all of the above. Primer was Vallejo, Paint was Ammo and had fully cured for at least 2 weeks. I was baffled.

How long did you let the AMMO paint cure? It would need at least 48 hours, even than the thinner will most likely start wearing away the paint. I always put a good clear coat of future or other protective product before using a enamel thinner on acrylic paints.

This is ANOTHER classic example of why I stick to TESTORS MODEL MASTER II Enamels and Thinners... NARY a single problem since the early 1980s...
I do not EVER mix different paint thinners with different paint manufacturers for washes, (I DON"T LIKE WASHES, except for PIN WASHES), filters, etc...
PS- No, I do NOT work for TESTORS...

Ammo Mig paint will melt right off the model if you use their oil based washes. You can let their paint dry for months and it won't make a difference. I clear coat everything with Testors Acryl clear gloss prior to applying any washes. Thin it 50:50 with the Testors thinner and apply a very thin coat. Future/Pledge will also work.

Cam, by enamel thinners, you do mean white spirit, or turpentine substitute, and not lacquer or cellulose thinners?

I had issues with odourless turpentine and white spirit over Ammo acrylic paints and clear coats (lifting paint underneath), but since i switched to their odourless thinner for filters and washes everything seems to work fine. No, I am not connected to them, I use Ammo and Vallejo since I can get them here where I live.
But knowing my luck, now that I sad that everything works without problems, I am sure I can expect major disaster on next session

I am using AMMO of MIG and Vallejo acrilics mostly because those products are easiest to get in place where I live.

Leave the model to dry for 24 hours.
The Gloss or matt varnish needs time to seal the model.
Have been a big fan of Testors Matt and Gloss Varnish for over 20 years and used these products to seal the paintwork on all

If the thinner base wash is applied straight after sealing the model you may find the wash seeping into the recesses and under the paint and starts making the paint go brittle or flaky.
This Big sucker was done with Mig Ammo paints and washes as mentioned above.
The image is only to give the reassurance that the Mig Ammo paint works and I have no affiliation with Mig Ammo.

I have had the same issue with Ammo by Mig paints depending on the enamel thinner I use. I always seal with Future for the decals, then an acrylic flat coat, but for some reason some enamel thinner still get to it. But I have started using Winsor and Newton White Spirit and do not have the problem any more.

A Web search came up with someone on the Airfix forum having the same problem this month. Mig J does occasionally read this forum I think, so maybe he might comment.
Humbrol enamel thinners, I've never used them but have used something similar that came in that same weird tin bottle, it smelled pretty much like normal household white spirit, not great for using indoors.
Like Kevin I've started using W&N since I found it never separates when making up washes with Humbrol enamels or oils.
The only problem I've ever had with white spirit damaging a model is where it has damaged the plastic at points where it's got into tiny cracks.
