I working on the 1/35th Dragon 251 D/7 Command vehicle. Does anyone know where I could get a wiring diagram for the radios? I've looked a lot on the internet but cannot find a clear shot of the configuration used in this vehicle.
Grateful for any help!

I think the /7 was an assault engineer vehicle. Are you talking about the kit with the tall extended radio mast?

251/3 is a command post

For what it is worth, there are two types of SdKfz 251 Kommandopanzerwagen you can make.

1. the /6 can be in Ausfuhrung A, B or C.

2. the later replacement is the /3 Ausfuhrung D Typ IV. Same equipment as above, but with the D model the /6 was phased out.

Maybe he's refering to the /17 command version, it has the large radio rack in the back similar to the 250/3 greif. Although the /17 is only an ausf. C I believe.

I believe he's building the 3-in-1 251/7 ausf D. Choice of standard /7, one mounting a 2.8cm gun and the unit command version with the left rear bench seat replaced by a radio rack.

Yes, that is the kit I'm building.

There was no command version of the /7 A thru D.

The platoon command vehicle would have been a /10 followed later on by a /17D with the latter schweben lafette configuration.

I believe KStN 714 (fG) (gp) says this, but double check just to be sure.

The D has done many funny things, but I'm pretty sure that you are OK in this case...

The "command track" is a legit version on that hull - removed one bench seat, added radios, antenna systems, a code table and Enigma machine, and a few other internal and external widgets, and "voila!" - a command track.

Most of the SdKfz 251 versions (/1 through /22 with a possible prototype /23) are defined by the way the standard hull was fitted out. The "odd" /17 (some used as a command track, and some converted to a FlaK track) with the clam-shell rear hull is pretty much the exception. Notably, the D has kitted both /17 versions - the clam-shell and the standard-hull - with the clam-shell version kitted as both command and FlaK versions, and the standard hull kitted with a Schwebellaffette 2cm turret.

Thanks Bob! Maybe all is not lost. Still can't find a photo or diagram of the radio in the Dragon kit. I'll just have to wing it. I've been modeling since the mid 60"s when all we did was "wing it"!

So after your plea who will be able to challenge you? Go for it!

If you look at the illustrations on the site I supplied there's a set up for the radios in a C it should give an idea

See this site - great photos and stuff about German WWII AFV radios, including at least one AFV radio set-up diag. Basically, you'll have a transmitter, a receiver (linked), power supplies and relays, loud-speaker and head-phones extensions, antenna cables... So you won't have to "wing" all of it!

Also look up the Aber German radios set... "Aber 35A079 German Tank Radio Set Fu 2 and Fu 5". This PE set comes with some nice wiring diags. Again, won't provide all the "command" set-up, but great stuff for some of the core radio sets.

IF you can identify the specific radio sets involved, you can likely find a lot of photos and diags for it - typical vehicle radio sets included Fu-2, Fu-5, Fu-8, plus ancillary relay, fuse, power-supply boxes.

Isn't that the kit where Dragon's picture has a /7 with the bridge units AND the howitzer in one machine? I know it's a 3 in 1 model, but they put 2 of them together on the cover. It looks really cool but isn't real.
