Hello.

I am using the kit-supplied Dragon photo etch slings for the Kar98k and Mp40s that I'm adding to a diorama and I must admit I have almost no idea how to attach them!

The slings supplied in the kit seem to be missing some parts like buckles and loops when compared to the real thing.

I've Googled the topic but I can't seem to make much sense of what the sling, when attached and unattached, should look like.

I am aware that there are better ones available from the likes of Aber and Passion Models but getting these is not an option for me.

Any diagrams or clear photos would be really gratefully received.

I gave up on PE slings. They are too stiff and a bear to glue in the proper positions. I use lead foil strips, cut from wine bottle sealers. PE buckles are nice to add to the strips though.

Merci beaucoup Henri-Pierre.

Those were really helpful. The Dragon slings don't look too much like the real thing on first glance but with a bit of cutting and folding it makes a lot more sense.

I totally agree with Mr Rutman...PE slings are a nightmare. Unfortunately for me, my scratchbuilding abilities are pretty bad so manufacturing straps myself out of lead foil and tiny PE buckles would probably end badly but I'm going to give that a try.

Fortunately for you there are no buckle in a German sling. They have slide fasteners and these are much easier to use. The "Alliance Models" set of PE for German Infantry equipment has some on it and I highly recommend getting a fret of this useful stuff. Every plastic German Kar98K rifle I have seen already has the attachment point on the stock molded onto it so you just have to glue the strap to the other side of the stock, where the sling passes through the slit. The one pic Frenchie posted shows a sling attachment I have never ever seen of a German rifle. It shows it attached to the trigger guard. Very odd.

Hahaha probably the only time in ten years I have seen you make the slightest mistake!
News to me that the WWI version had that set-up though. I always assumed they were the same as later versions. So your post was still useful!

Sometimes when I'm at work, I can open pics but not the webpage they're on (many militaria-related websites are blocked by my employer's filtering system). I've came across this picture while doing an image search for "K98k sling" and I deduced it showed one indeed...It didn't

I'll add a late comment. I've been using blue "painters tape" for slings and equipment straps. It's flexible, easy to superglue, and takes paint really well. I'm never going to fool with PE for slings or straps again.
