There are 7 photos that I have taken of the T34-85 converted into a Tiger 1 that was used in the film 'Saving Private Ryan' in 'Models/On the workbench/Next up T34' .
The tank is located at the Imperial War Museums outside location at Duxford in Cambridgeshire, England and is being refurbished to a scale static exhibit (no engine or transmission now fitted).
Jim will find the photos a proper 'home' to live in so their stay here is only temporary.
Any questions please e-mail.

Can't wait to see them. Is this the same "Tiger" that was used in the History Channel footage? (I believe it was in the Battle Stations: Sherman show)

I think It was also used on the history channels Battle Stations show about the tiger 1. Which by the way has a pretty good interview with Otto Carius!!! :-) I am anxious to see stills of the tank! Otto

Thank you for all of your kind and thoughtful comments. It makes being part of and the enjoyment of Armourama all the better.
The tank was commissioned only for the film, there is a lot of damage on one side (wheel stations) where the explosive charge was fixed but it did not come out that well in the photo.
At Duxford there is an under cover 'Land Warefare' exhibition that at this time has a strange PzkwIV (with a dismountable 105 mm gun) engaging a T34 (late Polish version) from within a ruined building. The plan is to refurbish the Tiger 1and to replace the Pzkw IV with it. It will look excellent when it's finished. When the Tiger is completed I will be allowed to take some more photos (restricted area to the public) before it is moved inside. I will send these on to Jim as well.
The Tiger 1/T34 that runs and was used in The History Channel is another tank. I saw it running last year at a big show we have here in the UK at Beltring in Kent. It looked great from a distance but knowledgeable as we all are, close up not so good.
I am going there again this year and I will take some JPEG video clips and the intention is to send them on to Jim for anyone who wants them.
Thank you again.

At one time I was considering doing a Tiger/T-34 conversion for a Kelly's Heores diorama I've been thinking of. But looking at those pics, I can see that my original idea of mating a Tiger upper hull to a T-34 lower hull, won't do the job. I'm pretty sure that the Saving Pvt. ryan Tiger was built just like the Kelly's Tiger and the turret sits too far forward to be accurately represented by just mating the 2 kits together. It would have to be an entire scratchbuild from the running gear up

Anyone wanting to produce a copy of the T34/Tiger from Kelly's Heroes, similar to the one from SPR, check out the back pages of last years editions of Fine Scale Modeler. A company in Los Angeles was making a 1/35 resin conversion for a T34 that resulted in the movie 1/1 conversion. Burbank House of Hobbies (houseofhobbies.com) had one of the kits last year before I deployed.

This may be a little off topic for the current discussion but are any of you familiar with the Tiger at the Bovington Tank Museum? It is an early tiger captured in Tunisia, #131, and shipped back to England. The museum is restoring it to its original condition. Most if not all of the work on the hull was inhouse but the rebuild of the turret was beyond their capability. The work on the turret was done by the Army Base Repair Organization "ABRO" unit close by. They didn't have a Maybach HL210 to put in it so they had to modify the fan linkage to fit a Maybach HL230. Everything was completed and before the turret was reinstalled they were road testing it. Engine blew up. they're in the process of building a new one. Ok now maybe on topic. Wonder how much they would charge to let a movie company use it in a film? Should be a lot as it will be the only operational Tiger in the world.
