Hi guys,

I learned that US Forces use wooden/plywood boxes to transport the steel ammo boxes in.

Can anyone point out whats the designation of the wooden wrap-ups? I think that Verlinden made some of them many moons ago.

The pictured box looks like the .50 Cal wirebound one in Verlinden set #88 indeed..

They are called wire bound boxes and have been used to ship small arms ammunition in metal boxes since 1944 or 1945.

I think you'd be better off building one very large cube from card stock, and then adding the borders to represent each individual box using .010 by .030 or .040 strip.
Run the card stock over medium grit paper a few times to give it some grain.
