The war that never was (thankfully). But I had this bug to do a scene of advance elements of 8th Guards Army, getting some directions from a detachment of East German Motor Rifle troops. The figures are mostly MiniArt, ICM and a Verlinden thrown in. Got the bus stop from the Dio-Factory (German firm). Vehicles are the Trumpeter BMP-2 and T-64B.

Great dio, and a good topic/scenario to pick .... I am also very thankful it was only a what if dio ... it would of been a very crappy war... especially as I was stationed there in a tank regiment on chieftain then challenger. Also did a week exchange visit with a US tank regt actually patrolling the Fulda gap...fun days

I was just finishing high school...located by a major HQ so it could have been interesting very quickly, not in a good way.
I need to get some pics with a better background. Not easy to do where I live, though.

Nice idea for a scene. I spent 6 years of my adult life training in Germany to fight this war that thankfully never happened. I got to see the Iron Curtain in person several times with the fences, wire, mined swath behind the wire and fake villages with automatic lights and human silhouettes behind the curtains. A hard taste of reality.
Thanks for posting.

Anyone who saw that border had no illusions! I did a Hof border visit in 82 and lived in Berlin 69-73.
A constant reminder.

Thanks--this was one of those scenes that threatened to get "out of control" as I kept thinking of more and more things to add. I think I struck the right balance. That cork board stuff you can get at Michaels turned out to be PERFECT for road surface, too. This is the "cleanest" dio I've done in terms of things not being totally wrecked.

I can never get enough of reading Red Storm Rising or Team Yankee, both classic go to books to re-read.
