I know Egypt makes their own and lack certain features the American ones do, and I did see an internet forum talk about how good or bad they are with no definite conclusion. Anyone know one way or the other?

Around 40% of the parts are produced locally (from 1994 also the 120 mm gun), the rest is shipped from the US. The amount of Egyptian parts and local involvement in the manufacturing process were gradually increased throughout six production batches from mid 1992 till late 1998.
Their armor lacks the depleted uranium mesh of the American examples but that's true for all export variants I believe. I've read somewhere that their FCS is also somewhat less capable but I'm not entirely sure about that.

I believe that externally, they look no different from any other M1A1. I think they are now up to M1A1 AIM standards as well. The last agreement to build 125 additional tanks was started in '11, halted in '13 due to the coup, and restarted in '15.

Fourth pic is an Australian Abrams in Puckapunyal. One below that is a US tank in ODS.
