Hello to all. According to Defence Blog, the Extended Range Cannon Artillery (ERCA) for the US Army has been accepted as the M1299. I am led to believe that the M109A7 will be redesignated with this nomenclature as they become upgraded. Of course, I do not know if our budget will allow for adoption of the new system.
It is reported to have a 155mm x 39cal gun, which makes it close to 30 feet long. It will have an initial range up to 70+Km and expected to reach 100Km in the near future.
From my amateur eyes, it looks like a rather fun project once an A7 chassis becomes available.
Respectfully,
Allen

Yup, it looks pretty mean and should be an easy conversion.

As a note, the current M109A6/A7 is 39 calibers. The new cannon is 58 calibers, almost 30 feet long.

Hello Gino. 58 makes more sense, don't it? My Johnson is 39 cal!
