Modern Russian naval fans will rejoice at this, da? If only there was a 1/35 Admiral Kuznetsov to go with it. So close....

The RPG Phalanx has a Chuck Norris decal. I wonder if Takom will have a Hold My Beer response.

So I guess the next question is: have the Russians or Chinese put a Kashtan on a truck or a track? If the Americans can put a CIWS on a truck, I have to imagine the Russians have tried it too.

The answer is: Yes.

Sort of.

During development in the 60ies they bolted a multibarreled 14,5mm gun together with radar and computing unit on top of a T-64 tank to counter incoming ATGWs. Mostly french made SS-11, aqquired from the Arab allies, who collected some on the NE battlefields. The radar and gun worked along a frontal arc of the turred. Kill probability of the system was 70%, which was called satisfying by the Soviets. So, technically, yes, they used a CIWs on a tank. Long before someone had the idea for a naval CIWS.

Why the system didn't made it into mass production?
As always: costs. Someone else developed the idea of a composite armor for the T-64, using some sort of ceramic balls embedded between armor plates, thay did in fact prevent the penetration of cumulative warheads, both RPGs and ATGWs, and was much cheaper to be deployed in mass production.
And there was no need or desire for a naval CIWS at that time, so the system went into oblivion.

I guess the Russians have rather opted for the Pantsir series of SPAAW, which use different missile and radar systems :

A naval version of the Pantsir (Pantsir-M) has been designed to replace the Kashtan on Russian warships.

I've noticed several 1/35 ship based weapons systems of late. This one and two US systems, and Pit Road/ Fine Molds had a couple IJN AA units. But why? As far as I know they were ship based .... BIG ships .... Destroyer or bigger ..... Only use I can see is "what if " ground based of vehicle mounted.

You can also scratchbuild a 1/35 scale German frigate Hamburg and install a PzH 2000 turret on its deck (project MONARC)

Pantsir has similar cannons as Tunguska (slightly improved), which, being single barreled, are nothing like the ones used in Kashtan (which are improved 6-barrel ones used on the AK-630).
