Eternal question about Syrian T-72.
I want to build a Syrian T-72 M1 but witch is the best kit for that?
Tamiya M1 with Miniarm turret (A or M1) or Trumpeter T-72 A kit?

TIA

Hi;

I have made both; IMHO you would be Better Off buying the Trumpeter kit as it has Greater Detail !! The Tamiya T-72 Shows its Age, and was the only accurate for A rare type. Miniarm Turret's are great, but you have to like resin, and are less forgiving to mistakes in assemble.

CHEERS; MIKE.

Thanks Mike,

Trumpeter T72 A hull is correct for to build a T72 M1?

Sadly I don't think the Tamiya kit is accurate for any type. The turret shape is wrong for either the early T-72/T-72M or the later T-72A/T-72M1, regardless of the turret/hull combination.

Yes Ed, with Tamiya kit I think to chage turret for a Miniarm A/M1 turret

I have the Miniarm T-72A turret for use on the Tamiya hull. It's very nicely done and checks out shape-wise against photos.

If you decide to go that route you'll end up with a nice T-72 and a simpler build than the Trumpeter kit, although probably more expensive in total.

Well , the Tamiya's kit need lot of works.
The turret and barrel is underscaled, the engine deck is symetric when it should not,
The good thing for a M1 is the front armour plate on the hull.
Trumpeter announced a T72 mod 79 that could be a better base (adding the armour plate isn't a hard work).

Yes Stephane, maybe the Trumpeter T72A is a best work base?

I thinks so!
If you have a Tamiya kit in stock you'll have to buy a new turret+ barrel and live with the rubber tracks or buy another tracks.
If you could wait a few weeks or months you'll have a Trumpeter A mod 79 which will save lot of works (specially if you build a syrian T72A, very common).
I discovered , thanks the forums, that Syrians have too T72A mod 83 (already available or soon to be release).
I don't know if Syria uses or used T72M1.

And i could add that the Trumpeter T72 serie has individuals tracks links (not workable).
So you're choice.

They had both, apparently.

IIRC the Syrians also use/used T-72 "Urals" but I can't think of any kits of this, except the ooold Esci kit.

If you want to obtain a Ural, you must modified T-72 A or B Trumpeter with new Ural turret, Miniarm or SBS.
