http://nigelef.tripod.com/hyregt41.htm shows the organisation schedule of UK heavy artillery regiments during WW2.
There are 3-Tonners listed, called Amn-1, which, I think, stands for Ammunition, right?
To depict a reloading of a gun (Thunder Models 7.2"howitser) I would like to know if the QLD can be used?
Next to the gun pit a Scammell R100 will be parked.

In 1:35 scale this will be quite a large diorama. As I understand it, the Tractors were parked some way away from the Gun line; whilst there was probably some ready-use ammunition carried on the Tractor, once the Gun had been emplaced, the few shells would have been offloaded and the Tractor withdrawn (I'm estimating around at least 50 yards or so to the rear).

It would be perfectly reasonable I'm sure, for the QLD to be the ammunition supply vehicle - assuming this is set in NW Europe.

Of course, you could depict the Gun being emplaced which would still put the Tractor close to the Gun, but it could all get quite busy; I suspect the ammunition truck would then be waiting off to the side whilst the Gun was being set-up. That said, it could be unloading ammunition close to the gun as concurrent activity.

This could all be a very busy scenario: I think the crew for the Gun numbered around 10, and unloading 7.2" shells could not be undertaken by the Driver (of the QLD) alone. So, say 15 to 20 tops? A lot of figures.

One other thing: markings for Royal Artillery vehicles are, in line with most British unit insignia of the period (and even today) quite complex, though an upside is that the red and blue of the Royal Artillery could add a bit of colour - in addition to the Formation signs.

I must stress I'm no Artillery expert but hopefully there are those out there who may be able to add something a little more definite.

For some reason Thunder Models boxed a 7.2“ howitser, which can be build as a 51 Heavy Artillery Regiment version, without giving the R100 box decals for a tractor from this unit.
Does anyone know the painting scheme and isignia for a 51 HAR R100, please?
