The story

Leopard 1 was one of NATO tanks designed during the cold war that supposed to deal with masses of Soviet tanks that would, in theory, charge through Fulda gap. It was designed in 60's, armed with 105mm gun,and went through several modifications and modernization. It equipped several European armies. It was never used against Warsaw pact forces, nor anywhere else for that matter, until early 90's. Nordic Battalion of UN forces in Bosnia had 10 of these tanks (painted white) while performing their peace keeping mission. During Operation Bøllebank attack occurred where in response Danish tankers fired 72 rounds and destroying 3 tanks and inflicting 150 causalities. This was the first combat usage of this tank.

The kit

The model is the old Tamiya Leopard 1A4 tank converted with Legend aftermarket kit to 1A5DK. The conversion itself is intended for the newer Meng kit, so some trimming was necessary to fit the contents onto this old lady. Some parts are designed for Meng kit, where Tamiya has no such options (some holes that might be portrayed open/closed), and among the biggest issues is the engine deck mesh - Meng has this PE part whereas Tamiya left this in plastic, and Legend didn't address this issue. So i used some plastic mesh and styrene to tackle this issue. Holders for towing cables are also missing and minor adjustments were needed there. Some of the tanks had some strange part on the front hull plate that i had to scratch built - it helps holding spare wheels.

Looks good. That front piece you added is for the dozer blade when mounted.

Hi!
Not exactly, it es for the mine plough only. The dozer has no switchbox. You should, when it comes to the vehicle UNPF number, consider that there were only a couple of tanks with the plough, one being UNPF 16111, 16112, 16118, 16120. All together, the Danes only had 3 plows, however it was possible to mount them on any Leopard 1A5 DK.

AND....
It’s not placed in the centerline, but more to the left side.

Thanks for the input.
I am not certain whether i would replace it to the left at this moment.
I have only the decals for 16111 with Lucky Luck. The problem is, however, that particular vehicle had mine plow. The mine plow is not available in plastic or in resin... There is one build couple years ago where the modeller scratchbuilt it using converted M1 Abrams mineplow...
it is a path i will less likely go. Unless someone direct me to the mineplow available?
I was considering to make a not historically accurate model that will incorporate some of the items available on several vehicles of that unit - one of them being usage of olive drab wheels.
So - is there available mine plow anywhere?

Additional question: as you mentioned four tanks with 3 mine plows - is there evidence that "mine plow designated tanks" (to use that term) dismounted their mine plows? I haven't find any photo evidence of 16111 that i could be certain to identify this particular tank with mine plow dismounted?
Thanks in advance for your answers!

Thanks! I just got the Trackpad book on the Leo 1A5DK1 but haven't read it all.

Perfect Scale has the Leopard TWMP in 1/35 but it looks like a lot of work.

Hi Michael, fact is that only three Rampta mine ploughs were bought by Danmark. One of these was a total loss as it was damaged by explosives as I was told. 16111 has the (what ever it is called) fitting for the TWMP and I do have pictures of it being victim of a kind of explosion at the front. However I do not have a picture of it with the TWMP fitted. But why should it have that fitting for it when it never carried it? What is the source that you refer to?

Hi Marko,
your Leopard is looking good so far.

Years ago, I built the mine plow from an M1 kit and some evergreen strips. As Paul mentioned, Perfect Scale has a Leopard mine plow available nowadays:
https://www.perfect-scale.de/en/www--perfect-scale-de-3/Leopard-1-Track-Wide-Mine-Plough.html?XTCsid=ia1p4i6vjonvh00l9nujctt3e0

The PSM TWMP is highly recommended.

Keep up the good work and have fun with weathering this white beast ;-)

Cheers
Walter

Work in progress. I am trying to depict a tank with replaced front wheels due to mine damage (photo reference included).
